It’s only the beginning of the second week of May and already the celebrity world has run the gambit of emotions. From death and sickness to impending marriages, celeb news has it all today.
Farewell Lynn and Lena
Actress Lynn Redgrave was only buried yesterday and we already have more sad news to digest. Revolutionary actress and musician Lena Horne has passed away at the age of 92. The New York Times reported that Horne died on Mother’s Day at Manhattan’s New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell hospital.
Horne stunned Hollywood with her voice, acting and guts, refusing to let the fact that she was a woman of color in a white-dominated Hollywood put her down. A truly inspiring woman with a fascinating life, Horne will be sorely missed.
Barbara Walters Announces Heart Surgery
Surprising everyone in The View‘s audience this morning, Barbara Walters announced that she would be taking a leave of absence so she can have surgery to replace a faulty heart valve. Though 80-year-old Walters has always given the impression of being the pinnacle of health, she said that she has known about the condition for some time and that this would be the best time to do the surgery.
Wishing Barbara the best of luck and a speedy recovery!
Wedding Bells are Ringing!
What do Harry Potter, Twilight and Bobby Brown all have in common? The fact that two of the stars from the films will be getting hitched, as will Bobby Brown to his girlfriend and manager Alicia Etheridge.
According to the Florida Times-Union, Brown proposed to Etheridge this past Friday at the annual Funk Fest in Jacksonville, FL. After Brown asked Etheridge to come on stage (she did so and brought their 11-month-old son Cassius along), the VH1 Celebrity Fit Club alum got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. The crowds went crazy after she said yes and the two celebrated their impending nuptials with a kiss.
Sorry boys and girls. Harry Potter‘s Bonnie Wright and Twilight‘s Jamie Campbell Bower are off the market and set to tie the knot after a whirlwind courtship. Wright, 19, who plays Harry Potter’s love interest and Ron Weasley’s sister Ginny, met Bower, 21, at a party and the two have been inseparable ever since. Wright had told People magazine that they had been dating for only six months as of February, and according to the U.K.’s Daily Mail, Bower popped the question last month.
Having a hard time imagining the coupling? The youngsters will appear on screen together in the impending film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in November, with Bower playing the role of Gellert Grindelwald.
