You’re home alone. It is approaching the witching hour and you find yourself bored with nothing to do. As you look over at your gaming rack you see the game, Left 4 Dead 2. After the mediocre play through of Left 4 Dead 2, because of to many similarities shared with the first game, you are unsure if you should pop it in and see if there is any available DLC. However you decide to do so anyways, on your screen it shows that yes, some download-able content is available for L4D2. A new chapter is available, the DLC is titled: The Passing.
The passing promises to re-introduce the old characters from the original game, Left 4 Dead, and two new survivors. The download-able content is roughly about as long as one chapter in the original game, with a mind blowing, intense finale. As you join the remaining survivors you must escape from a small town that has been completely left open to rampant infection. The only way out is a large bridge that leads over the river to another side of the city. So you join your team-mates in an all out fight through the town, its back roads, and finally to the bridge.
The campaign takes place over three unique and different levels, spanning from local streets, a church, and even back roads throughout the town. This new content also introduces a new type of zombie called the “Fallen Survivor.” These zombies contain very help full items that can definitely boost your teams survival power. Some of the items they can drop should your team capitalize on their presence and kill them before they run away are: Pipe bombs, ammunition piles, health packs. You will notice that of the remaining survivors from the original Left 4 Dead Bill is missing. He is credited with sacrificing himself in order for the group to go on. Hence the name given to the DLC, The Passing, is in reference to this event. As you play through the first two chapters in the campaign you ready yourself for the finale, a daring race across a bridge, the last route out of the fallen city.
So crossing this bridge won’t be a problem right? Wrong. This bridge is a nightmare to cross, filled with hordes of normal zombies, two Tanks, two Spitters and a few Hunters as well. Between all the carnage you will be delivering while crossing this bridge two new weapons join the teams arsenal, a golf club, for you melee fans, and a vicious M60 Mini Machine gun.
This DLC also has another trick up its sleeve. Each week after the release of the DLC a random new game mode is created via a generator. These random game modes are called: “Mutations.” They can range from having a chainsaw with unlimited fuel and outscoring your opponents to flat out having to win in and good old fashioned shoot out amongst the survivors playing online.
Overall if your looking for an intense, blood filled, and incredibly dangerous mission for Left 4 Dead 2, that also helps to continue the story line from the first game then you will want to buy this DLC. However if you are more of a casual gamer who really enjoyed Left 4 Dead, and Left 4 Dead 2, but really isn’t all that into it, you may not want to spend the 8-16$, if so this is one DLC you will want to skip.
