Lebron James is sitting back on his throne enjoying the havoc he is creating as NBA reporters, desperate for information have resorted to pure speculation. LeBron James must be amused to hear on a daily basis what city he will be moving to next.
The biggest story is no longer where LeBron signs but which reporter will break the news of the signing before it happens. ESPN, Fox Sports and other sports organizations digging around for information are being crowded by websites such as TMZ and Huffington Post also attempting to make their name by breaking the story first.
Reporters on LeBron James Free Agency Need to Change Names to Speculators
Since no new information is forthcoming, reporters have resorted to unconfirmed, unnamed sources. Over the last few weeks reporters have speculated ever possible scenario with unnamed sources. LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh have met in Miami and will all soon sign with Miami. Another reporter speculated Dwayne Wade was coming home to Chicago and bringing Bosh and LeBron James with him.
Still another report has claimed after a second meeting with the New York Knicks, the Knicks are now the front runner to land LeBron James. With all these reports that are for the most part purely speculative, no one has spoke of any combination involving Cleveland. With Cleveland not being mentioned, it raises questions.
One Person Has the Answer & LeBron James is not Ready to Make Decision
For months LeBron James has been pelted with questions of what he would do when he became a free agent. Now that he is a free agent, LeBron is playing his position perfectly. Only one person will know first, that will be LeBron James. The second person to find out will be the reporter that gets to break the story. The real question will LeBron let a reporter break the story?
Two key clues have come about today but one of them may be the answer as to who breaks the LeBron James signing first. First the New York Knicks met with Lebron to talk to him about their acquisition of Amare Stoudemire and Mike Miller. Okay I am sure they focused on Stoudemire but Mike Miller may be a key move. The second clue is LeBron James opened up a new Twitter account, more on this later.
Handicapping NBA Reporters is like Handicapping Rats in a Maze of Looking for Cheese
The winner of the LeBron James Sweepstakes will be hard to handicap but I will make an earnest attempt to handicap the five most plausible scenarios of how the world will first learn of the LeBron James signing. Featured in the top five will be King James and four reporters along with their odds.
Remember these odds are for pure entertainment purposes except for the reporters themselves who will no doubt want to place money on themselves. Anyone wishing to post odds in the comment section on themselves or a fellow reporter is more than welcome.
LeBron James is the Favorite to Break his Own Story. Odds: Even Money.
LeBron James is keeping his plans under wraps so well, no NBA General Managers, no players or NBA insiders have any idea what James is planning. The most obvious news at the moment is that no reporter wants to accept is that LeBron James doesn’t know what he wants to do at the moment.
James best plan of action once he decides, should be to call a press conference in a neutral location (Las Vegas would be perfect with NBA Summer League in town). James can then let the feeding frenzy for information continue for another week and then announce his plans.
James second option is to use his new Twitter account to announce to the world who he has signed with. There is a reason LeBron James is even odds he is the best bet to announce his signing before anyone knows.
Charles Barkley is not Involved in the Feeding Frenzy of Misinformation. Odds: 3-1.
Charles Barkley is respected by all the NBA players and since he has refrained from making any speculative claims as to where LeBron James is headed, Barkley is the front runner to get the information an hour or two before LeBron James announces the news at his press conference.
Stephen A Smith Gets the Sympathy Vote. Odds 10-1.
Stephen A Smith has already made two different claims to know where James is going now if he makes one more claim he will have covered 60% of the possibilities. Be careful to set guidelines if anyone picks Stephen A Smith to break the story.
Chris Broussard the ESPN Insider is Clueless but May Get Lucky. Odds 20-1.
Chris Broussard is standing fast that Lebron James is staying in Cleveland but he is speculating. Although it makes the most sense and may be true that Bosh and James are going to Cleveland no one has a confirmation so Broussard’s opinion doesn’t count as breaking the story.
TMZ Sports Wants to Make a Splash With LeBron James Signing. Odds 75-1.
TMZ Sports is the long shot to pull this off but don’t count them out. TMZ Sports is finding they can receive a lot of hits by breaking controversial stories in the sports world and encouraged by their digging on the Tiger Woods story they are digging in their feet on this one.
