LeBron James is being sued by a man claiming to be his father, according to TMZ. There are plenty of rumors all over the web regarding LeBron James and what team he will be playing for (which will be announced tonight, July 8, 2010 on ESPN at 9 P.M. ET), but a man who says he could be LeBron James’ dad is creating a whole different kind of drama for the superstar.
Who is the Man Claiming to be LeBron James’ Real Father?
LeBron James and his mother Gloria are being sued for millions by a man claiming to be LeBron James’ father, 55-year-old Leicester Bryce Stovell. You’d think the guy would be the typical money-grubbing coat-string (jersey-string?) grabber out to exploit LeBron James and his mother to make some much-needed cash, but Leicester Bryce Stovell is hardly in need of financial assistance; he’s a Princeton graduate employed as the Senior Legal Advisor for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. So he hardly comes off as some crazy old coot desperate to be seen and to make some green.
Leicester Bryce Stovell: TMI!
So could Leicester Bryce Stovell be LeBron James’ real father? According to TMZ, he is alleging that Gloria James has been shielding LeBron from the truth for years, even going so far in court documents as to recollect the lurid details of the night he had “relations” with Gloria (he recalls apologizing to her). Leicester Bryce Stovell even states that Gloria notified him that she was pregnant months later, although she didn’t tell him who she thought the father was. He even says he told her that if he was the father, to make sure he ending up playing basketball.
But LeBron James Already Took a DNA Test
LeBron James did agree to a DNA test many years later, but claims that the results showing he is not LeBron’s father were tampered with. He says LeBron and Gloria were the ones behind the cover-up due to LeBron’s abandonment issues and conflict with his story of growing up as a child from the projects without a father. He also claims Gloria James wanted LeBron James’ life story to match up with the Spike Lee movie ‘He Got Game’ for marketing purposes. Oddly enough, LeBron James did name his second son Bryce (Stovell’s middle name).
So What’s Going On Here?
This is definitely an odd situation. Why not ask for another DNA test instead of the $4 million Leicester Bryce Stovell is asking for? And why file a lawsuit now with all of the LeBron James’ rumors about what team he is going to play for making headlines? Perhaps Leicester Bryce Stovell really is just looking to make some money and get some attention from the media. Or maybe he just wants to make Gloria James look bad due to the way she has responded to his claims that he could be LeBron’s father in the past; with all the LeBron rumors, it’s the perfect time to drag her name through the mud.
And what’s up with LeBron naming his second child Bryce? That definitely seems a little strange. Perhaps his mother did find some way to tamper with the DNA test results, advising LeBron to stick with their original story. And maybe naming his second son “Bryce” is a way to show his real father that he does, indeed, know the truth.
Of course this is all just speculation, and it’s probably going to be hard for Leicester Bryce Stovell to prove that the DNA test results were tampered with (unless another is performed and he does turn out to be LeBron James’ dad).
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. In the meantime, we’ll soon see a stop to the other LeBron James rumors when he announces what team he’ll be playing for tonight (I wonder if he listened to Betty White’s plea to stay in Cleveland?). Although it will take just seconds to put an end to the rumors, LeBron will be starring in an hour-long special entitled “The Decision”. Seems silly, I know, but at least funds generated from the show will go to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. It’s a shame he probably won’t address what else is going on his life during that long hour, but I have a feeling we’ll have to wait a long time before we learn the answer to the other big question about LeBron James.
