Cigarette smoking is a nasty habit and we all know that it isn’t good to do. Many smokers are addicted to nicotine and that is why quitting is not easy to do. If you are a smoker who maybe has tried to quit in the past, sometimes you will start to show signs that maybe it is time to try again. When you show some or all of these signs, quitting can be a success.
Disgust of the smell.
When you start to get sick of the smell of cigarettes, whether it is the odor on yourself or smelling someone else light up, you may be getting close to the quitting stage. Sometimes forcing yourself to be around smokers really can open your eyes (and nose) to how disgusting it really smells.
Habit not enjoyment.
If you find yourself lighting up a cigarette more out of habit then for the pleasure, it may be time to think about trying to quit again. Finding a substitute habit that is healthier may be easy to do now. Think before you light up and you will start to recognize that you reach for a cigarette subconsciously. Recognizing this can be a big help in stopping.
In many states the cost of a pack of cigarettes has risen to crazy amounts. In some states it has become illegal to purchase cigarettes over the internet so if you are going to continue smoking it will cost more money. Think about how much money you really spend on cigarettes. Consider how much you waste weekly on your habit and let this be one of the reasons that makes you cut back. Promise yourself a reward for spending less on cigarettes until you finally do quit. Instead of buying a pack a day, skip a day and put the money away that you would have spent on cigarettes.
If you have noticed that you are getting more upper respiratory infections or have been having frequent sinus infections that you passed off as allergies, smoking may be affecting your health. Quitting and remaining smoke-free will improve your health and signs of that will be evident within the first 72 hours after stopping. Smoking is responsible for many chronic health conditions and once you do stop, you will notice that your health improves.
Reasons to quit.
You will smell better. Although you do not always smell cigarette odor on yourself, others smell it.
Your sense of smell and taste will improve. Even though you may think you are normal- quit smoking and you will notice that food tastes better and you will smell things more intensely then when you were smoking.
You will feel less run-down. Smoking damages your lungs and even someone who thinks they are in good physical shape is not if they smoke cigarettes. Lung function improves greatly within hours and days of quitting.
If you notice any of these feelings of disgust towards your smoking cigarettes, all it may take is an extra push to make you more serious about quitting for good.
