I experienced a funny cruise story aboard M/v Regal Princess on a 15-day Princess Cruises Panama Canal sailing. It occurred during a cruise from May 1 to May 16, 2006.
Before the funny cruise story, calamity on Star Princess
My husband and I were booked on Star Princess going to Europe in May 2006. Our plans changed dramatically when Star Princess caught fire on March 23, 2006 while in passage from Grand Cayman to Montego Bay, Jamaica. Star Princess had 2,690 passengers with 1,123 crew on board when a discarded cigarette end landed in an external stateroom balcony started smoldering before developing into flames. One passenger died and 11 passengers were treated for smoke inhalation and released.
Planning for the Panama Canal aboard M/v Regal Princess
After the fire on Star Princess, we decided on a cruise sailing through the Panama Canal. The travel agent checked availability for an accessibility stateroom, which is only available if not needed by a passenger with accessibility needs. It was available which meant a larger stateroom, with no additional charge, so we agreed to book. It was in a great location with easy access to the public areas by using the stairs. As always, when my husband and I take cruises, we walk the stairs every chance we get so we can walk off the ‘extra’ calories from all the wonderful food. It really works for us.
One funny story on M/v Regal Princess
The 70,285 ton, M/v Regal Princess 798-cabin ship set sail from Port Everglades with 1,742 passengers and 660 crew in tow. It was headed for the Panama Canal with stops in Aruba, Panama City, Costa Rica, Huatulco, Acapulco, Cabo San Lucas and San Francisco. It is the beginning of one funny cruise story.
Our cabin was an external outside stateroom, with a large picture window, and a large bath with shower that backed up to the stateroom next door to us. The funny cruise story on M/v Regal Princess begins one morning when my husband was shaving as he normally does. He tapped his razor on the sink several times. Rap, rap, rap, pause, rap, rap, rap.
We hear the next stateroom door open and shut making the usual very loud noise bang. We hear a woman tell her husband, “There is no one at the door.” The next morning, my husband is shaving and taps his razor on the sink several times. We hear the next stateroom door bang shut. This time the husband tells his wife, “There is no one at the door.”
The funny cruise story continues
That evening my husband does a test with his razor by tapping on the sink. He calls me over and we hear the wife tell her husband, “There’s that knock again.” I think by this time they are sure they are hearing a knock at the door, when in fact, it’s my husband’s razor tapping on the inside of the sink. We asked ourselves from then on whether we should ‘stage a door knock.’
Okay, we were innocently being entertained. It got to be a game and a little mischievous. This is my funny cruise story on M/v Regal Princess and hoped you enjoyed the playful funny cruise story.
