Keyboard on the IPad?

by itchyfish

Apple has released the long awaited iPad, which revolutionized the portable entertainment market as we know it. The launch of the iPad forecasts great things on the horizon. However, something was left to be said about functionality of the iPad in realizing this Apple has released some new accessories.

If your tired of smudging your screen using the iPads built in keyboard, which is really a touch screen. Then I’ve got news for you, there are in fact better ways. In order to avoid screen smudging and broken bleeding fingers in the future. This article will detail the only options allowing you to connect external keyboard devices to your iPad. These devices make your iPad more closely resemble a laptop when reason turns to purpose.

For the modder in you,

One young man in japan took the lack of a viable iPad keyboard accessory as more of a challenge then a disadvantage, deeming it worthy of an undertaking. Dark General created what he calls the iPad in iBook.

This young man created something new and amazing. By gutting an old iBook and placing the iPad into the screen area, he created the first ever fully function iPad laptop. With the capability to remove the iPad from it’s dock when not in use as a computer or web browser.

This seems to be the greatest invention known to the Apple modder community to date.
According to the Dark General however, there is one issue with this method.

Closing the iBook completely could cause damage to the iPad screen. One would have to assume that the iPads screen sets out slightly further then the original LCD and thus closing the iBook completely puts too much pressure against the keys and the screen.

For the ones who have to have Apple official hardware,

Apple has released a special keyboard dock for the iPad. This dock resembles that of a wireless keyboard with one exception. Rather then connecting to a remote computer, Your iPad simply sits down on it. using this iPad keyboard, you get full keyboard functionality, as well as some special keys to pop around quickly.

With this little accessory you can get more work done faster. If you are using your iPad for writing letters while, on a plane, a train, or riding in the car. This little gadget is a blessing for you.

For those who don’t like to be tied down,

Apples iPad is capable of blue-tooth this feature allows you to use any blue tooth keyboard with the iPad. meaning you can use a keyboard like the mac blue tooth keyboards. Windows blue tooth keyboards in theory will work as well. However, for obvious reasons a Mac keyboard is preferred.

What this means to you is that you can use a portable dock like the Apple iPad dock, or the Apple iPad case. To position your iPad in such a way as to not be cumbersome and relax while you use the wireless keyboard, brilliant I say. You can even set your iPad next to your stereo and using the iPad speaker output port provided by the dock. run music through your home stereo, while using the keyboard as a remote control.

Conclusion,

While there are many accessories for Apples iPad, Apple isn’t focusing too much on the keyboard accessories. This is mainly due to the fact that there are already a number of blue tooth keyboards available today. Any number of these already available blue tooth keyboards will make a suitable replacement for the onscreen keyboard of the iPad. You can find many of the accessories I’ve mentioned in this article at PC World.
