TLC has announced that Kate Gosselin, superstar reality TV mom to twins and sextuplets will soon star in two new series to be broadcast on the network this summer.
Twist of Kate, set to begin airing later this summer, will feature twelve episodes in which Kate responds to fan letters from women inspired by her own story. The series will also profile women facing their own difficulties and challenges. Kate will actually visit the homes and workplaces of the women and “walk a mile in their shoes.” Kate will try out their jobs and find out how they cope. She will also lend a hand in helping them in any way she can.
“I look at it as a loose concept,” says Kate. “I want to be out there learning from others, helping to provide insight whenever I can, though I don’t consider myself an expert on anything.”
According to TLC chief Eileen O’Neill, Kate will be put in situations outside her comfort zone. No kidding! Most of the families I know don’t live in million dollar houses and have a staff of helpers: a maid, chef, housekeeper, groundskeeper, nanny, on-staff babysitter, and the like. It seems as if TLC is stretching it just a bit with this series.
Critics of Kate question why she is doing another reality series. Is it for the money? Undoubtedly, but many wonder just how much money Kate could need, even with eight growing children at home.
The question remains whether a Kate show minus the kids can attract viewers. Surprisingly TLC has also announced several Kate Plus 8 specials will focus on Kate’s life as a single mom. As of this writing, Kate Plus 8 will costar Kate Gosselin’s eight children. The first episode will air in June and will feature the further adventures of Kate and the kids minus Jon.
Famously, Jon and Kate Plus 8, the Gosselin’s popular reality TV show was cancelled last year when Jon Gosselin refused to allow filming to continue citing his concerns about the welfare of his children. Why he would allow the children to be included in the Kate Plus 8 specials remains a mystery. Will he make an appearance? Was he paid for his cooperation? Seeing as how he currently has no discernible means of employment, a payoff is a real possibility.
Jon has also recently filed suit in a Pennsylvania court seeking custody of all eight children claiming Kate to be an absentee parent. Kate answered recent claims made by ex-husband Jon Gosselin on a recent stint on The Tonight Show with Jay Leo. “I feel like I say this a lot, and for whatever reason I feel like I have to defend myself. But the truth is, moms work. Single moms work. I travel and work. That’s my job.”
When asked by Leno what former husband Jon Gosselin was doing for employment Kate replied, “I don’t know.” “When Leno questioned her further as to whether or not Jon had a job Kate replied, “Not that I’m aware of.”
