Justin Bieber outdoor concert canceled – teen idol sings inside on Network 7’s Sunrise
Justin Bieber was scheduled to perform three songs at a free concert at the Forecourt of the Overseas Passenger Terminal at North Quay, Sydney this morning. The concert, organized by Network 7’s Sunrise morning TV show, was canceled before 6.00 am due to the size of the crowd that had already gathered at the venue. Police shut down the event because they were concerned for the safety of teenage fans. Frenzied, screaming girls were inconsolable (some hysterical) when they heard about the cancellation. It has been reported that fourteen (14) fans were treated by paramedics (mostly for hyperventilation) while waiting for the concert to commence.
After the shutdown, hundreds rushed to Martin Place hoping to catch a glimpse of Justin if and when he arrived to perform inside the studio. Later in the morning, Justin performed his hit song “Baby” on Network 7’s Sunrise breakfast show. Police formed a barricade in front of the studio windows that face Martin Place in the center of Sydney while frenzied, screaming fans (mostly girls) tried to catch a glimpse of the 16 year old heartthrob. The one song performance was later re-played on The Morning Show and the situation discussed by hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies.
Some fans flew right across country from Perth in Western Australia to be at the concert. Others drove from distant locations to be part of Bieber’s only Australian performance during his promotional visit. Some slept at the venue to secure the best vantage points, only to be sadly disappointed when Police shut down the area. Police were also concerned that girls as young as 12 and 13 were at the venue unescorted by parents.
A Sunrise spokesperson indicated that security for the concert was equivalent to that organized for the annual The Big Day Out concerts and by the same security firm. Obviously, nobody guessed that Justin Bieber would be so popular that the crowds would be unmanageable.
Justin Bieber is the Canadian youngster who uploaded his performances onto U-Tube and ended up being signed by US music guru Usher. His popularity has soared and he now has a world-wide following.
Australians are well-known for latching onto the latest craze and Justin Bieber just happens to be that craze. Aussie fans are extremely loyal and will be waiting anxiously for news that Justin is coming back for a concert tour.
