Happy July 18th!
July 18th is a special holiday. In fact, every day’s a holiday for someone and for some reason.
Although we may not know the origins of many of these holidays, avid celebrants will participate eagerly in marking July 18th as a most special day for so many different reasons.
Here are several of the most popular holidays celebrated on July 18th (arranged alphabetically):
Anti-Bigot Day
Are bigots begotten or best forgotten? July 18th is the day to find out. It’s Anti-Bigot Day.
No single group seems to have taken ownership of Anti-Bigot Day on July 18th, but perhaps that is for the best on this day of total tolerance. Anti-Bigot Day offers everyone an equal opportunity to aim for acceptance, whether we agree ideologically or not.
Chrysanthemum Day
Chrysanthemums offer fine fall colors in the garden, and these prime perennials fill garden supply center displays in midsummer. Why not pick a parcel of chrysanthemums, and plunk them in patio pots or garden plantings on July 18th? It’s Chrysanthemum Day.
Perfect Family Day
Does anyone have a perfect family? Maybe most of us can only claim to put the “fun” in “dysfunction.”
What would a perfect family even look like?
June 18th celebrates perfect families – or perhaps even less-than-perfect families. What a perfect occasion for a family picnic, a family bike ride, a family beach outing or another family event.
Ride a Motorcycle to Work Day
Grab your briefcase, and hit the throttle on July 18th. It’s Ride a Motorcycle to Work Day.
On July 18th, everyone wants to be a biker. Fire up those horses, or hop on the back of a friend’s bike on Ride a Motorcycle to Work Day.
Rev it up, baby!
Sidewalk Frying Day
Whew! Midsummer is here (at least in the Northern Hemisphere), and the mercury is rising. Do you think you can fry an egg on the sidewalk? Try to fry on July 18th – it’s Sidewalk Frying Day.
Although the origins of this steamy holiday are a big hazy, the idea may have merit.
