Lucas was traveling through the desert on his special motorbike at the time. He surveyed the Rhukashlavian territory to be sure that the map of the country was as accurate as possible. As he continued to travel north, he spotted something he didn’t expect. He stopped his motorbike, got out his phone, and called Joshua.
“Hey, Josh,” he began. “You won’t believe this one!”
“I think I will,” replied Joshua. “What did you find?”
“Up about 25 to 27 miles north of the palace is another island of trees, plants…”
“Wait one minute, Lucas,” interrupted Joshua. “How is that even possible? Is it a mirage of some sort?”
“I’ll go and get a closer look,” replied Lucas.
He started his motorbike and rode closer to the green landscape. He arrived to find himself on green grass and an outlook of trees ahead of him. He called back Joshua.
“It’s real,” said Lucas over the phone.
“How big is this piece of land?” asked Joshua. “Try to go around the circumference if you can.”
Lucas started riding his motorbike around the land’s circumference. To his surprise, it was disconnected from any other possible luscious landscape.
“This is odd,” said Lucas again over the phone. “Josh, I think I need you with me on this one.”
“I’ll request permission to leave then,” replied Joshua.
He got off the phone and drove over to the spot where Lucas was. He got out of the car and surveyed the land himself.
“Perhaps it was man-made,” said Joshua. “Otherwise, this place is a mystery to me.”
“I think the whole country of Rhukashlavia is a mystery to me,” replied Lucas. “This is the third one I found this month.”
“Did you say the third?”
“Yeah,” replied Lucas.
Lucas started walking into the tiny forest.
“So are you coming?” asked Lucas.
“Of course,” replied Joshua as he started to trail behind Lucas. “If someone lives here, then…”
It was at that moment that Joshua stopped and had a thought.
Lucas looked back to see what was wrong.
“You know something, don’t you?”
“Yes,” replied Joshua. “I know what you’ve stumbled upon. I should’ve seen it before.”
“And that would be….?”
“This is a lair of the Dark Thieves,” replied Joshua. “I don’t know if they still use them, but they were common in the ancient days.”
“What kind of science did they use?” asked Lucas. “It’s incredible!”
“Unfortunately, I never learned,” replied Joshua. “I can’t believe you found three of these within only a month!”
“I thought you said you would believe me,” replied Lucas.
“Never mind that I said that,” replied Joshua. “This will be very useful for us… but also very dangerous.”
“Why and why?”
“It’s useful, because it will help us better understand the technology and scientific resources that the enemy really has,” replied Joshua.
“And the bad news is what?”
“Unfortunately, we don’t know whether they are still using their ancient lairs,” replied Joshua.
“Whoa!” replied Lucas. “That’s crazy!”
Joshua looked towards the sunset.
“We’ll report this and have a meeting sometime tomorrow,” said Joshua. “It’s time to head back to the palace before it gets too dark.”
Joshua started to walk back to his car. It was not too long before he drove off.
Lucas got back on his motorbike. He looked behind to see a bush that had moved. He thought he saw a figure run back into the small forest.
Lucas felt some fear as he started to ride towards the palace.
‘Why didn’t Josh spot that one?’ thought Lucas to himself. ‘I think that the Dark Thieves are smarter than I thought they were. I just hope that my life isn’t in danger, too.’
