Jersey Shore Season 2 has a new cast, whether they realize it or not. The young adults who showed up with garbage bags for luggage on Season 1 are no longer there. They have changed as much as their luggage has, which now consists of the high end designer bags. They were more entertaining when the only name on their travel bags was “Glad”.
When Jersey Shore first aired, part of the entertainment was watching as these young adults got acquainted with each other along with the enjoyment of viewing the trial and tribulations that went on in a house full of strangers. Now the nobodies who once occupied a house at the Jersey Shore all have publicists, book deals, product endorsements and clothing lines waiting in the wings.
MTV should have concocted a reunion show instead of relying on this now celebrity cast take on another entire season worth of episodes. The insecurities of these big headed kids would often seep through on Season 1. This Season, the gang is basking in their celebrity status and it is now like watching an episode of Celebrity Rehab gone bad.
The producers of MTV hit on a concept that took off into a ratings grabber of a TV show, but they forgot what the alluring quality of this show was for the viewers. It was watching regular people from regular everyday places party down at the Jersey Shore.
Snooki left the Jersey Shore house last season in a generic beat up economy car, with luggage made up of boxes and worn random suitcases packed into the back seat. Jump to the premiere of Jersey Shore Season 2 and it was hard to concentrate on what Snooki was doing as all eyes were on the beautiful designer suitcase she was trying to left into the car.
I attended a group gathering to watch the new season and no one got the fact that the tiny might called Snooki was trying to lift this big bag into her car. Instead the conversation among the group was about “who made the designer bag” and “how great it would be to have one that size and shape”. The high life the cast has been living is bleeding over into the show.
Another difference seen immediately in the opening of the show was the Escalade that has taken the place of the beat up economy car as Snooki’s ride. This just signaled the start of the star status we would see throughout the kick off show.
Jersey Shore is bound to have viewers drop off weekly as the episodes air this season. The magic that the MTV producers were able to conjure up in season 1 is gone forever. The over indulging in alcohol is still there, as are nights out clubbing, but there is something missing. It is like the fresh new car smell that fades after a while and you are sad to see it go because it signifies “old”. My guess this is what we can expect to happen with Jersey Shore Season 2.
