“It’s hard to make a U-Turn at 100 miles an hour” Jeremy Dodge knows this from personal experiences. As a music lover born with a heart for rock and roll, Jeremy did what so many did in his youth. He grabbed his guitar and jumped into the Life in the Fast Lane crowd, playing, rocking and living hard. And like so many he crashed and burned. It was a time when the words to Buffalo Springfield’s, For What It’s Worth rang true to him ” stop, hey. what’s that sound ,everybody look at what’s goin’ – down” He knew he had to stop and listen to that sound, and the sound was God calling him to serve.
“I laid on my bed and thought, “there’s got to be more to this life!” I prayed the most ugly prayer in history and told God if He was real, I needed to know.” Jeremy relates. Jerermy woke up the next day, totally sober.
From that day, Jeremy went back to the path of going to church, staying straight and ministering to others that traveled their own fast lane. But that wasn’t enough.
“I wanted to help the adults, but God showed me it was the youth I needed to reach out to. In 2006 my wife and I became Student Ministry Pastors and have been pouring our lives and souls into young people ever since.”
It is a good outlet for his love of music, using everything from traditional hymns and gospel to some of the more modern inspirational songs in ministering to the kids.
Then one day, as he was watching Glenn Beck, Jeremy got the over powering urge to write a song about what is going on today in America.
“I was fighting it, hesitant because hey, I am a Youth Minister, I needed to write an in your face song about God, not politics”, Jeremy said, recalling how he felt. “But the feeling was so strong, I knew this what I needed to write, andthat was a song telling the world it is time to stop running down the path to destroying America. It’s hard to make a U-Turn at 100 miles an hour. It’s time to stop and Stand Up for the principles and values that made America. The chorus from For What It’s Worth just kept running through my head, I knew I had to use it in the song. I want to thank Warner Chappell Music and Buffalo Springfield for allowing me to do so.”
Stand Up is a powerful hard rocking tune in which Jeremy’s skills as a songwriter and a music artist really shines. And the message is clear, we must all Stand Up together and let Washington know it is We The People who they work for , not themselves.
“I am not a politician, I am a minister who is also an entertainer, I just want my music to inspire people”, says Jeremy. “And I realize, especially with the youth, not everyone watches Glenn Beck or Fox News. Some don’t watch any news for that matter. But they do listen to music. That is why I needed to write this song.”
“If you like Stand Up , you are going to love the new one I am working on” , he teased. Watch for it and others on his website , www.jeremydodge.com .
One thing for sure, Jeremy Dodge not only Stands Up for his beliefs, he also Stands Out as a great musician.
