The winner of the reality sweepstakes YouTube portion of “America’s Got Talent” was a small girl with a big, beautiful voice. Jackie Evancho, only 10 years old, blew the crowd away with her operatic singing talents. Most were listening to the show in the background, only to look at the television and realize that the beautiful opera music was coming from an adorable 10-year-old girl. It was clear less than halfway through her performance that she overshadowed the other numerous competitors, and was a shoe-in to win this round. She will move on to the next round in the competition, and fans have high hopes for this talented young singer.
As technology seems to becoming widely accessible, children are learning how to use advanced equipment at very young ages. Elementary school aged children can already work a DVD player and computer much more quickly than their grandparents. It is no wonder that there have been many young boys and girls who have made videos and posted them on the World Wide Web to gain exposure. Various talents being posted on the website YouTube, for example, have bred a new generation of virtual stars.
16-year-old Jessica Rose made a YouTube series about the fictional life of a teenager. It gained so much popularity that she began getting offers for television show appearances. From her success online, she has landed roles in Law and Order and ABC’s show Greek. VH1 even voted her the biggest web hit a couple years ago.
Tom Dickson is credited with the famous “Will it Blend?” videos, in which he would put various items in a blender to show how powerful his product was. Tom is the CEO of Blendtec and, as he grew in popularity, so did his blenders. One his most famous YouTube videos was where he blended an iPhone when they first came out. That video was difficult to watch as a very expensive piece of desired technology was blended into worthless scrap metal.
A young star who can relate best to Jackie Evancho would be young Esmee Denters. She began by singing the song “What goes Around” by Justin Timberlake on YouTube. After her video increased in popularity, she began putting some of her own material on YouTube. She has actually performed the song with Timberlake, and recently signed her own contract with Tennman records.
Given the success of the above three young stars, it isn’t difficult to imagine the kind of future the music industry will have in store for young Jackie Evancho. She will be a real contender in “America’s Got Talent.” Not all the contestants have been chosen, and almost all of them will surely be much older than Jackie, but they should certainly take her serious as an artist. She was blessed with that beautiful voice, and has trained it to sing opera well. There is no telling what can be expected once the show begins its weekly airings and eliminations.
