While Walmart serves a nationwide economical purpose of providing all types of goods for low prices, there are some items that just aren’t worth paying the low price.
A great synonym for the Walmart Great Value line would be “Poor Quality.” This is especially for the food items under the Great Value brand. Not all store brand foods are bad. There are certain food items in supermarkets like Shop-Rite and Stop & Shop where the store brand is preferable over any highly advertised brand name of the same product. For instance, Shop-Rite brand Italian sausages are far better tasting than you’d expect a store brand product to taste. The same thing goes for their corned beef with a convenient seasoning bag in the package.
Walmart on the other hand, is not pulling off any quality store brand food items under Great Value. Running down a specific comparison of foods with Great Value knockoffs would be just as much of a waste of time as you purchasing it in hopes of satisfying you or your family’s taste buds and appetites. Just know that if times are hard and you resort to shopping for food based on attractive price points instead of attractive ingredients at Walmart, you are doing so at your own risk of culinary disappointment.
However, one item worth mentioning to avoid under the Great Value brand is their purified drinking water. There isn’t much pure about it when it contains sodium fluoride and chloride listed as an ingredient. Most people who buy drinking water are usually buying it for the purpose of not having any additives to their drinking water. Buying Walmart Great Value water is almost equivalent to bottling your faucet water. You’d be better off going into the appliance aisle and purchasing a water filtration device.
Use discrimination with their Equate versions of brand name items also. These items are usually found in the over-the-counter medicine aisle. Right next to Sudafed Cold & Sinus would be an Equate Cold & Sinus promising to do the same thing Sudafed does. Next to Nyquil you will find an Equate version; drowsy and non-drowsy forms. For your wellness or alleviation of symptoms, you should probably go with what is proven here for effectiveness.
Equate also has versions of Johnson & Johnson lotions and products. You will not find the same quality of the Johnson & Johnson’s baby lotion in the Equate version. It’s significantly watered down and has a weird consistency that fails to deliver the smooth moisturizing experience classically found in Johnson & Johnson’s tried and true line.
If you are not a member of the “I refuse to shop at Walmart” committee, the key is to stick with what you know for food, medicinal, and personal items to avoid buyer’s remorse. For everything you do know, go ahead and take advantage of those rollbacks.
