As Democrats slink closer to November elections, it appears any compassion for the ” 99ers” has been overshadowed by the Republican resistance to bills extending unemployment benefits, as well as Senator Pelosi’s plans to ignore it and let it die a slow death .
While Democratic House Speaker Senator Pelosi pays lip service to the long term unemployed, she made darn sure any bills such as ” The Americans Want To Work Act’ did not make it on the Senate roster for discussion.
So many Americans are confused by the process and ask ” What next?” ” Is it dead?”
Yes, it appears so and “99ers” can thank both the Democrats and the Republicans for so skillfully doing the “sidestep” of this measure which would have helped the long term unemployed.
According to AP news reports:
” Stabenow’s bill has been referred to the Senate Finance Committee and must pass out of committee before it comes to the Senate floor. A Senate Finance Committee staff member told one reporter that consideration of the bill is not currently on the schedule.
The odds of Stabenow’s bill going anywhere are slim. The federal extended unemployment benefits program is scheduled to expire at the end of November. It’s unclear whether Congress will extend the program once again as the last extension faced contentious opposition from Republicans. If the program isn’t extended, Stabenow’s bill is moot. “
So there it is, the end of the long road for this particular bill.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it appears that the passionate rhetoric of Stabenow and others was a ploy to win votes as they knew from the beginning Pelosi and her minions were not going to allow this bill to come on the Senate floor. Ever!
The extension to help the long term unemployed was never really up for discussion as far as they were concerned and the over one million folks who classify as” long term unemployed”–these people who are the most vulnerable to becoming a permanent underclass of people— they will most likely end up on the welfare rolls if they are lucky.
Some may just end up parked outside of the capitol building begging for pennies.
I suggest the next ” 99er” rally be held as a sit- in demonstration where participants dress as beggers.
Because basically that is how the congress and the press has vilified them. Lazy panhandlers who threaten to disrupt the upcoming elections with their whining over lost houses to foreclosure, and lost dignity to job losses and age discrimination— when they never really wanted to work after all. They would rather beg on the street than get a job, those lazy 99ers. I bet they are all drug addicts and alcohalics too.
Are you offended? Well, I am sorry but they just don’t care if you become a vagrant after your 401K and savings are gone. That’s just the way it goes as far as your Congress members are concerned. They simply don’t give a damn.
