New York City has more to offer in terms of date ideas than many other towns and cities across the country. Despite the plethora of places to go and things to do, some still stick with the same typical date over and over again. If you’re in the mood to try something different but are on a budget, there are plenty of unique and inexpensive date ideas that can leave your date with an unforgettable memory and, if you’re lucky, a positive impression.
Picnic and Beast Speedboat Ride
Cost of date: Approximately $60 for two
The Beast Speedboat is thirty minutes through New York harbor while you’re traveling 45mph. It operates out of Pier 83 at West 42nd Street and 12th Avenue. The cruise runs from May 3rd through September 30th every hour from 12pm to 7pm (or dusk). Each ticket is $23.00. After the Beast speedboat ride, head over to Bryant Park, which is located between Fifth and Sixth Avenues and 40th and 42nd Streets. Making some sandwiches at home along with a bottle of water each should cost about $10. Make sure to bring a blanket in case the tables aren’t available.
Candy Shopping Trip and Walk
Cost of date: As much or as little as you want to spend
If both you and your date have a sweet tooth, Dylan’s Candy Bar located on Third Ave in NYC can be a date spot to bring out your inner child. Many people have stories about the candy they loved as a child, how a lollipop got stuck in their hair or how there’s a certain candy that they have a slight obsession with. They carry over 5,000 different types of candy so there is something for everyone. After roaming around the store and picking up some goodies, take a walk around the neighborhood, devour your goodies and have fantastic conversation.
Board Game and Coffee at High Line
Cost of date: Minimal (only cost of board game and coffee)
Buy a board game together along with some coffee, then head over to High Line to relax on one of the chaise lounge chairs or benches and play the game. It also leaves plenty of opportunity for conversation and friendly competition. Entrances to the park are located from Gansevoort Street – 20th Street.
Shop the Flea Markets
Cost of date: As much or as little as you want to spend.
There are plenty of flea markets throughout the city that can leave room for shopping and conversation. You can learn quite a bit about someone from visiting a flea market such as random pieces of information they know, what type of music and clothing they like and even their taste in art. Considering how packed they can be, it is also a good opportunity to judge your dates patience level. Check out the Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market which is located on West 39th Street and 9th Avenue or The Antiques Garage which is located on West 25th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. They are open on weekends and during the day, so it is a perfect opportunity to get there early and, if things work out, grab brunch after.
