Inflation Hedge! Free Products at Walgreens Using Register Rewards!

by itchyfish

This is no trick. This is no gimmick! It’s as simple and as plain as the nose on your face. However, your average person is not aware that you can get free items each week at Walgreens! Walgreens has a program called Register Rewards and this is not something you need to build over time or any kind of points program, it is like an instant rebate with virtually no effort, only a little know-how.

Here is an example. A few weeks ago walgreens had a variety of Dove brand shampoos and conditioners on a register reward promotion. The product cost $4 and if you bought the product that week, then you automatically got a free register reward in the amount of $4 off your next shopping order. That is like an instant full price rebate without having to spend a stamp or sending a rebate form or take any time at all to get that rebate. That is a no brainer win win gain of getting a free product! Of course, you have to spend that $4 coupon that says Save $4 off your next shopping order at walgreens, and you need to spend it by the expiration date. (the expiration date may give you 2 weeks as an example to get something else you want). So you ask, how can this be? Doesn’t walgreen’s lose money? Doesn’t the manufacturer of the product lose money, since you just got the item for free? (well it is essentially free via an instant rebate if and only if you actually use your register reward coupon before it expires).

As with many rebates, not all people take advantage of them. So a great deal of people who intended to use their $4 register reward will either lose their coupon, forget to bring it with them when they shop at walgreens next time, or let it expire before using it. Use it or lose it. That is the Register rewards Game. The very same week Walgreens had that free Dove promotion, they had one for vitamins. The box of vitamins for men or women cost $3 on walgreen’s sale. When you bought those vitamins you were given a $3 Walgreens register reward which once again, means you essentially got those vitamins for free! Now that is an inflation hedge!

If you are that kind of person who might forget to use their register reward or might not make it back to walgreens before the expiration date of the Register Reward coupon, then when you get your register reward you should get right back in line at walgreens and buy that item you want with the register reward so you won’t lose the great deal!

The other benefit for the register reward from the walgreens or manufacturer prospective is it gets people to try new products they may have never otherwise bought and also it gets you back into walgreens to spend more money. So, both walgreens and the manufacturer advertising the free item with register rewards is not losing out as it may appear to you. You, however definitely win in a situation where you get an item completely free with walgreens register rewards!

Now, for the person who uses coupons, there is an added bonus to register rewards. They can become actual money makers. For example, let’s say you had a coupon for $2 off dove shampoo. The walgreens example of Dove shampoo costing $4 and yielding a $4 register reward making it essentialy free via an instant rebate will also make you $2 profit if you bought the item with a $2 off manufactuer coupon!

Walgreens register Rewards, also known as RR’s in the online couponing community, can become very addictive. Addictive in a good kind of way if you like to save money. There is the thrill of getting the free item, and then the next item for next week’s shopping trip! What a great way to hedge inflation through shopping! Walgreens gains a regular customer and you save money in a big way, and perhaps in the tune of hundreds of dollars each year! Additionally, Walgreen’s knows that if you are at Walgreens shopping you may buy other items there that you would have purchased some where else.

To look for register rewards and to know what is free via instant rebate of register rewards, simply carefully read your walgreens weekly sales circular or flyer. Register Reward deals are highlighted throughout the flyer and once you recognize them you will spot them easily each week! Walgreens advertisements even tell you which register rewards turn out to be the equivalent of free too! So, you don’t have to be a genius or a coupon a holic to know how to get free stuff when it comes to using Walgreen’s Register Rewards program. To have an advanced heads up of what walgreens items will be free with instant rebate of register rewards, there are many online web sites and blogs that give previews ahead of time for such amazing and thrilling deals. This will help you plan your shopping trip if you are the planning type of person!

Sometimes it is hard to resist getting something free! What if there is something free you don’t really use or can’t really use? This is a great opportunity to help your local church or food pantry or a neighbor in need. Take those free products and donate them and you can feel twice as nice about your Walgreens register rewards. Some people sock away these freebies as gifts for special occasions or thoughtful gift baskets, or saving for en emergency situation.

It is a great feeling to get something for free and hedge against inflation and even greater feeling to give it away to someone who can truly use it!
