Wow, rolling in money. This is a sizable lottery winning that I am thinking of. Don’t get me wrong, I am very happy now with who I am and what I am doing. I wouldn’t want to switch the basics of who I am or what I am doing with anyone else. But going from rags to riches? That is something I dream of doing.
The first thing I would do would be to buy a few motorcycles and jet skis. One would be a BMW R 1200 GS since I love to ride long distance when motorcycle touring. Two would be BMW F 800 GS. The lighter weight and seat height were deciding factors. There would be a smaller Honda Rebel or two thrown in there for people to better learn to ride on.
There would have to be pairs or trios of bikes so I could easily ride with my grandkids. There is a standing rule that before I will consider buying them their own bike, they have to ride around the perimeter of the country with me and my grandson just turned 16. I want the opportunity to become comfortable with their riding abilities. I also value the time spent with them.
All of the grandkids are right at the brink of not being able to do as much with me. We would rather spend time with each other, but for them to accomplish their dreams, they need to be doing other things with other people now. The jet skis will be 2010 Yamaha FZRs and will help us while away the summers while not able to travel as much as we want.
The second way winning the lottery would change my life is in my growing the Internet business, I’ve started. The Internet business is one that helps others who are seeking a better, more solid and durable recovery from a psychiatric diagnosis/mental illness learn more about how to do that. I am currently looking to purchase software that would help this learning be interactive and easy to use. Just watching a video or reading a post doesn’t make learning enjoyable and exciting.
I have been looking around trying to figure out how to get the idea out of my head and onto the web in an easy and enjoyable way and have been drooling over the Articulate Software. My 30 day free trial is almost up. All they need is a Mac Version.
The third way winning the lottery would change my life is that we would work on the upstairs of our house. We would take the huge blue tarps off the roof, replace any damaged cross-members, reuse any plywood and give the roof a new coat of shingles; then add in solar panels. Here is where we get to the rags to riches part.
I wanted to go with a metal roof but in researching it realized that if I did so, all the snow would be dumped upon either my daughters section of the driveway or the neighbors section of the driveway. I couldn’t live with being that unpopular.
We would have a better bathroom, an upstairs toilet that worked, walls that looked decent and no more holes in the floor where we had to rip out pipes. My room would get new ceiling tiles, fresh paint where needed, a recording studio area and a couple of comfy recliners I could work out of.
The fourth way that winning the lottery would change my life is that I would like to have a party, a true celebration that recovery from having a mental illness/psychiatric diagnosis is possible. It would need to be somewhere in the middle of the state of Michigan and I would like to have all 600 + Michigan Certified Peer Support Specialists there. I’d also invite all the NAMI people that I have trained in In Our Own Voice and Connection.
My treat. Because of having so many people, it would probably have to be at a hotel, but we would need campfires, some mores, canoes and clean water to canoe in within easy access. Three days of networking, laughing, sharing recovery tips and learning from some of the best people we know; each other. All learning about how to no
The fifth way that winning the lottery would change my life is by my becoming able to start a foundation to help people who are in a good, solid recovery get both guidance and a loan to either start a business or buy a house. So many people have been there along the way for me, with computers, affordable places to rent or stay, helping me with ideas for starting this business, helping me reach my dreams or sharing their stories of hope that I want to do the same for others. My dream for this is that some of these businesses would be for peer provided services.
I tried to tell myself that I wanted an emergency fund, a retirement account or something else that was incredibly more sensible, but just couldn’t do it. After the start, I would expect my business to bring me from rags to riches. That’s all that is needed, a good start. For any of us.
