Has Noah’s Ark been found? Evangelical Christian filmmaker Yeung Wing-Cheung is 99% sure that the wooden structure Turkis and Chinese scientists and archeologists working for Noah’s Ark Ministries International found encased in a glacier atop Mt. Arafat is the Ark referenced in the Bible.
Accrording to the King James version of the Bible, God decided to destroy humanity with a great flood but chose Noah to build an ark and save his family and two of each animal species. According to the Bible, God provided Noah precise building instructions:
“Make thee an ark of gopher wood… The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.
A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.”
Carbon dating allegedly has established the age of the relic that Yeung Wing-Cheung believes is Noah’s Ark as 4,800 years old. The filmmaker and scientists have not spoken publicly as to whether the wooden structure found in eastern Turkey matches the precise dimensions set out in Genesis. They did say, according to Fox News, that the planks were about 8 inches wide and some were 20 inches long. The structure contained several compartments that Noah’s Ark Ministries International suggests were used to house animals.
Ark Discovery International is one religious group unlikely to be thrilled with news of the putative finding of Noah’s Ark. Ark Discovery International puports to already have excavated Noah’s Ark and has its find on display in a national park in Turkey. The discovery of this earlier potential Noah’s Ark was announced in 1987 and declared a National Treasure by the Turkish government. With tourists flocking to Noah’s Ark National Park to see the alleged Noah’s Ark, someone’s going to have some explaining to do if it turns out this latest find is the real Noah’s Ark.
Back in the 1970s, a movie release triggered excitement over the finding of the Biblical Noah’s Ark. The findings portrayed in In Search of Noah’s Ark turned out to be less glamorous than expected. Further research proved the object thought to be Noah’s Ark was actually a rock formation.
