Ice Cream Shops in Bakersfield, California

by itchyfish

Looking for a sweet treat to cool you down during Bakersfield’s brutal summer? Then head to one of the local ice cream shops. There are several places to indulge in a treat during the summertime and it can be difficult to decide which one is best. Some of the questions that may enter your mind is do you go to a chain or a family owned place? Both have their perks and downfalls. This article will detail five of the best to stop at in Bakersfield, California.

Ice Cream Shops in Bakersfield, California #1: Rosemary’s Family Creamery

If you’ve lived in Bakersfield for a while, then you’ve undoubtedly heard or been to Rosemary’s Family Creamery. They are located in downtown Bakersfield and the blue awnings on hard to miss. Right when you walk into the shop, you can either go to a table or wait to be seated during busy hours. The tables and chairs are modeled after how they would be in an old fashioned ice cream shop. They have several different kinds of ice cream and even serve stuff like sandwiches. The ice cream comes in different size containers and even their small size is pretty decently sized. I enjoy going and getting a Sundae with caramel on it. Their caramel also seems similar to what they served in the days of old and is absolutely mouthwatering. The service is hit or miss. Sometimes you’ll have a great server but other times you’ll have someone that seems more on the rude end.

They are open seven days a week and their prices are moderate. Rosemary’s is located at 2733 F S Bakersfield, CA 93301. For more information, call (661) 395-0555. They open everyday at 11 AM and close at 10:30 PM.

Ice Cream Shops in Bakersfield, California #2: Dewar’s Ice Cream & Fine Candy

Dewar’s Ice Cream & Fine Candy Shop is well known in the Bakersfield area for their chew candies. They are a chewy combination of pure yum! Besides that though, they have stellar ice cream. There are two shops located in Bakersfield. One is their original shop which is located at 1120 Eye Street, Bakersfield, CA 93304. This location is like an old fashioned ice cream shop complete with having to take a number when you go in on a busy day. Try their marshmallow sauce on your ice cream when you go in, it’s delish. Another fun thing is their mint ice cream. It is pink and not the traditional green, which throws many people for a loop!! Their prices range from affordable to slightly high. Their other location is located at 9530 Hageman Road, Bakersfield, CA 93312. It is a newer building that doesn’t seem to have all the charm of the older location. The downtown location is open seven days a week from 10 AM to 9 PM.

Ice Cream Shops in Bakersfield, California #3: Cold Stone Creamery

Cold Stone Creamery is a chain shop but their ice cream is so yummy it’s worth the trip. You can order your ice cream plain or you can have stuff mixed into it. They put it on an area and chop at the ice cream until everything is all mixed in. The only downside for me is that I find their prices pretty high so if you’re taking your entire family it can be pricy. Check the coupons in the weekly paper though because they often have coupons (like 2 for $5 dollars). There are three locations in Bakersfield. The one we frequent is located at 9000 Ming Ave. Bakersfield, CA 93311 You can check their website for other locations. They are open seven days a week. Cold Stone is open from 11 AM to 10 PM.

Ice Cream Shops in Bakersfield, California #4: Moo Creamery

If you’re more health conscious or you just want a tasty treat, then consider going to Moo Creamery. Their ice cream is homemade using organic milk. They have all kinds of ice cream combinations, shakes and even regular food. This shop is locally owned and is an updated version of an old fashioned ice cream fountain. Some of their prices can be high while others aren’t that bad so it all depends on what you order.

They are located at 4885 Truxtun Avenue Bakersfield, CA 93309-0709 and their phone number is (661) 861-1130. They are open Monday through Saturday (closed on Sundays). Monday through Thursday they are open from 7 AM to 10 PM. Saturday they are open from 8 AM to 11 PM.

Ice Cream Shops in Bakersfield, California #5: Baskin Robbins

Baskin Robbins is a chain favorite in Bakersfield. There are five locations in Bakersfield. They all seem to be conveniently located on main roads such as Stockdale Hwy, White Lane, etc. The shops have booths that you can sit in. Their prices range on the high side in my opinion but there are so many different ice cream choices it can be worth it. You can order sundaes and ice cream cakes too. I enjoy going there with the kids just to get a cone as a special treat. If you’re not sure about an ice cream flavor, you can ask to try a small spoon size sample. You should expect to spend about $5 dollars a person unless you’re just getting one scoop on a cone.

The Stockdale location is located at 5460 Stockdale Highway, Bakersfield, CA 93309. You can visit their website to find out the other locations. All Baskin Robbins in Bakersfield are open seven days a week from 11 AM to 9:30 PM.
