Why did the nemesis take on Locke’s body? What is the significance of the earing in the little boy’s left ear? Why can Sawyer see the boy and not Richard? Why hasn’t Hurley lost any weight on the island? Who does Kate’s hair while she is trapped on the island?
These and many more questions can be answered on the endless blogs and discussion threads throughout the net. Well maybe not the one about Kate’s hair but it would not surprise me. Lost is a phenomenon as a television show. The fans of Lost are fanatics equal only to those of the old Star Trek series.
Today there are tours in Hawaii of the areas where Lost is filmed. People hold parties for special episodes like the opening of the season and the finales. Even President Obama is reported to have considered the timing of his State of the Union Speech so it did not interfere with the first episode of the last season of Lost.
There are fans who scour the web for casting announcements to try get a clue as to which character will be returning and then figure out how they will return. Some fans are delving into the linguistics angle now that we have a new language introduced, or is it new? Then there is the petition drive to turn Tom Sawyer’s Island at Disney World into a Lost attraction. That’s correct, shove aside Mark Twain and bring in Lost.
I have been watching Lost since the very first episode and was hooked when the plane split apart. I remember watching that first show thinking this is going to be a really big hit. There was the drama of the plane crash, the roaring of the engine, who can ever forget that? Normal, at least what I thought would be normal, reactions of people after a plane crash. We meet a doctor, a sexy young woman, a goofy fat man, and a mystery man. All the elements were there for a really good show.
Then the black mist showed up and I knew this was not going to be just any ordinary TV show. Following closely after the black mist was the polar bear. “Yeah dudes, I saw a polar bear,” said Hurley. As the gang of survivors were getting settled into life on the island more strange things turned up. There was the census which revealed an extra person, meet Ethan. Then goodbye Ethan. Then meet the Others.
I was hooked and could not let go. Each week I would tape the show and watch it after my wife went to bed. She kept saying she did not understand what was going on. I never had the moxy to admit, I too had no clue as to what was going on. For me Lost was simply entertaining and a way to escape for an hour each week.
Today I come out of the closet. I have no clue as to what is happening on Lost and do not care. I watch Lost for entertainment and to escape for one hour a week. There I said it and feel much better. I am certain there are others of you who feel the same and now is the opportunity for you to stand up come clean and expose your self.
Is the loveable torturer Sayid alive or dead? I don’t care but I hope he stays on until the end. He is my favorite torturer and if I am ever to be tortured I will request him to torture me. Will Kate and Claire make up so Claire can get her hair combed? I hope so the show needs another good looking young lady. Will I ever figure out that guy who did not like the sound of English on his lips? How about Locke, or Smokey, why can’t he just kill everyone? And then there is Jack, will he ever operate on another back again? I doubt it.
I have the recorder set to tape the next and each episode of the final season of Lost. When it is over, I will be sad. My hour of escape will be gone. Nothing on TV even comes close to being as entertaining. Now that I have come clean with my little secret I can really enjoy the final episodes of Lost
