If you wake up every day with the knowledge that you are a writer then the first thing you should do is write. Write about your dreams, goals or even the little stories that you have floating around in your mind. Write someone a letter or a thought filled e-mail. Writing everyday will sharpen your skills as a seasoned writer. Save even the tiniest piece and go back to it after you have had time to reflect and consider other ideas that you could put with the tiny one. Give yourself time and space to express yourself through writing. Take the chance and show your work to people who can publish it.
I call my first draft to any piece my “Sloppy Copy ” and it serves as a canvas to the art I am capable of. Not one writer puts out a perfect work the first go round. The best writers reread and restructure their work more than once before they have it right. It is also a good idea to have an extra set of eyes to read through your work for errors or places in your piece that do not flow. Have someone tell you if the story or article inspired them the way you meant it to. In one day’s time you can put together fifty main ideas and each day after you can work on them and sharpen the story line or add more relevant facts.
I have been in the supermarket before and over heard a conversation about someone being betrayed by their mother. It stayed with me for the rest of the day. The next morning I started to write about the main idea and began putting in my own ideas of what led to that main topic of betrayal. Those thoughts led to my own creative conclusions and before I knew it I had written a fiction piece that flowed beautifully and pulled at the readers heart. I tested this by letting two of my closest friends read it. They both wanted more. I still work on that story from time to time and I know one day it will be ready for me to publish. Not yet because I still have a writers eye for what is finished and what is not.
Life is hectic with all of our responsibilities and goals. To carve out even a minute for yourself to write can sometimes be very difficult. If you haven’t any time to spare through out your day then dedicate thirty minutes at night before you go to sleep to write down the thoughts you had through out the day. You are not trying for a polished piece yet your are making room for your much needed personal time to gather facts and ideas for future use. Just one page is better than nothing. When you do finally have a finished piece then you take a deep breath and send it out for publication. See yourself as the writer you truly are and you will become the writer life has meant for you to be.Your life will change if you nurture your talent a little everyday. You get a chance to put down you fears your joys and your imagination. Give yourself time everyday and you will see your life begin to alter into the life of a writer.
