A year or so ago, I saw some beautiful wedding pictures that a friend showed me. As I was browsing through the pictures, seeing the pretty smiles and the romantic poses, there was something that was a little different about this wedding and I couldn’t at first put my finger on it. Ok, ok, maybe I did immediately put my finger on it, only because I notice everything! But this noticing everything was a good thing – I had noticed that all the bridesmaids in the wedding were carrying flower bouquets of different colors! One was holding yellow daisies, another some sort of pink flowers, and another had white ones. It was amazing, and so brilliant! And very, very inexpensive.
So here is how it can be pulled off. Before the wedding day, you want to be able to look around and find grocery stores or other stores (mine is always Wal-Mart) that have a section with those bouquets of flowers, very inexpensive, that you often see men picking up for their wives at the end of a long work day (or, um, after an argument which I of course would know nothing about). Be a regular in the store and see how their selection changes. Does it change drastically? Are they ever out of flowers completely? When does their stock of flowers seem to be low? Go ahead and ask the manager questions, too.
Now that you’ve eyed the perfect spot (or two, or even three), go ahead and let your plans and ideas be made known to everyone involved. Let your bride’s maids know, of course – either that they will be picking their own bouquets or else the person you have designated will go pick them out and they will each be carrying a different (or even same) one. And, of course, if you have designated someone to oversee the picking up and preperation of the bouquets, go over every detail with them. Where should they get them, what time, how much will they cost, what time should they be delivered and where, and what type of preperation needs to be done to the flowers.
Preperation of the grocery store bouquets can include such things as trimming the stem tips down to a size that will look good in photos, and perhaps wrapping some tule or other fabric around the stems where the maids will be handling them.
Using grocery store flowers can be a unique aspect to your wedding, and it can also drastically cut down on costs and even worries when it comes to having an outside source bring flowers in. So come on and step outside the box a little and do your own bride’s maids flowers! You could even allow the maids to express their own personal style and taste by letting them pick up and arrange their own flowers! What a neat idea!
