You have quite possibly heard the importance of article marketing. It is a great way to build backlinks to your website. You can showcase yourself as an expert by sharing your knowledge. You may have also heard that you should syndicate content across several article submission sites. While it is always great to get your articles submitted to several sites, there are a few things to keep in mind.
If you have delved into article marketing previously, you have probably heard of Google’s duplicate content rule. Google keeps their secrets close to vest, so everyone has their own interpretation and theory. I, along with several other writers I have spoken to, try to avoid the issue as much as possible. I try to make the most of syndication without adding too much more work to my schedule. Here are a few methods to syndicate content effectively and hopefully avoid duplicate content penalties.
Switch up the title. I have yet to write an article that the title cannot be changed slightly into something unique. Be sure to include your initial keywords, or utilize another good fit. Many article submission sites will also give you a report of keywords used to find your best articles. If you wait a period of time before syndicating to another site, you may choose to incorporate these keywords.
Rewrite the first and last paragraphs. Your introductory and concluding paragraphs can most times be changed relatively quickly as well. It is believed these are what search engines look most closely at when indexing, so take a few minutes to change a few things. Some writers spin articles by replacing a few words with applicable synonyms, I prefer to delete those paragraphs and start fresh to avoid any duplication at all. You can leave the “meat and potatoes” middle paragraphs alone if you choose.
Verify the site’s submission guidelines. Before you syndicate your content to another article submission site, read the rules. Make sure they accept previously published material. Even though you have changed the title and a few paragraphs, the majority of your content will be duplicated if you are not doing a total rewrite. Make sure the site will accept it.
Verify that you retain rights to republish. Before submitting anywhere, make sure you retain exclusive rights to the content. Some sites obtain no rights, some give you the option of retaining or handing over your rights, some get all rights to your content upon submission. Read the rules and guidelines to ensure you hold the copyright on your material and can freely publish it elsewhere.
Syndicating content is certainly worth the little extra effort involved. If you choose a few good quality, high PR sites to submit to you can quickly get into a routine of syndication with little extra strain added. Use the tips above to make the most of your article marketing endeavor.
