A local department store made a generous donation to my school recently: bags and bags and bags and bags of Easter grass. Green Easter grass, pink Easter grass, shiny and matte, there were hundreds and hundreds of bags of the stuff! Being the recycler that I am, I couldn’t let this Easter grass go to waste, even though every staff member had already taken all they wanted and hundreds of bags still remained. So what can you do with leftover Easter grass? Other than just keeping the Easter grass for next year’s Easter baskets, there are other ways to use this material. Check out these ideas for recycling and repurposing leftover Easter grass.
Gift Packaging. Easter grass makes great packaging for gifts. Forget the tissue paper and put leftover Easter grass around your gift in a gift bag instead. Since Easter grass comes in many colors these days, and is almost always pastel, it makes great filler for baby shower gifts. Filling gift bags is a great way to reuse and repurpose Easter grass.
Mailing Packages. Easter grass, and its soft texture, makes great packaging for sending items through the mail. Forget those packaging peanuts and use Easter grass to cushion your packaged items for mailing. Easter grass works great as package filler and cushion and the fun color and texture will delight the package recipient. Easter grass can easily be recycled into filler for mailing packages.
Crafts. Easter grass is an excellent tool for creating a variety of crafts. So what if you don’t really make crafts at home, consider donating leftover Easter grass to a variety of places. Churches, daycare centers, and schools are just a few of the places that create crafts on an almost daily basis. Any good VBS worker, teacher, or child care provider will come up with dozens of craft uses to recycle leftover Easter grass.
Centerpieces. Leftover Easter grass is great for creating centerpieces for banquets, bridal showers, and other events. Try adding a little Easter grass to potted plants to give the plant color and really dress it up as a decoration. This works well with real and fake floral arrangements. Easter grass can also be scattered around with Christmas lights or sparkly streamers for a lovely party centerpiece. Recycle your leftover Easter grass as a decoration for a spring or summer event.
Don’t throw that plastic or paper Easter grass out! If you don’t keep it for next Easter, employ one of these great uses. Easter grass can be used for a variety of projects so reuse or recycle your leftover Easter grass.
