Love your kids enough to get them up, out and moving around! Do whatever you have to do to get your children outdoors actively participating in life through sports, dance and play. Not only will you sleep better at night and stay fit and trim, you will be teaching your kids the importance of activity for lifelong health and happiness. Most communities offer organized sports camps, teams, and instruction, as well as a wide array of dance, exercise and self-defense classes.
Cable network stations can provide dance and exercise classes to work out to such as Christian exercise programs combining motivational Scripture with challenging workouts, or dance and exercise programs on Fit TV at FitTV.Discovery.com online and join the “National Body Challenge” role-modeling for your children. You and your girls could try ballet, tap, jazz and modern dancing together.
Your boys might enjoy more free-style movements such as stomping, mountain clogging or free running urban aerobics. But don’t stop there as dance circles the globe with Irish/Celtic River Dancing, Mediterranean Belly Dances, Hawaiian Hula, Mexican Salsa, Indian Bollywood, Polynesian Warrior Dances and the list goes on and on.
Team Sports & Camps
Your children can choose between all-time favorite team sports like soccer, basketball, baseball, football, volleyball and hockey (ice or skate). All of these can be found throughout your local Parks and Recreation community courses guide, offered-up as sports camps, age-appropriate toddler sports discoveries, pre-sport learning skills, children’s instructional sports classes, as well as team organized and outfitted competitive sports leagues.
There are also individually challenging competitive sports available such as swimming, hiking, sailing, rock-climbing, horse-back riding, skate-boarding, skating and skiing. Refer to my news page at AssociatedContent.com/cmajors for local kid-friendly activities offered in our Southern California area, listing everything from “Summer Boating Safety Tips for Families with Kids” to “Low Cost Outdoor Summer Fun for Kids” as well as “Outdoor Fall & Winter Science Activities & Crafts for Kids” which suggest additional sports activities and fun ways to get more exercise into your children.
For specifically targeted exercises enroll yourself right along with your kids into an Aerobics, Yoga or Pilates class, with or without steps, balls, bands and weights. With your littlest ones you could take a “Mommy & Me” exercise class.
You might also enjoy suiting up with your kids for a round of Tai Chi, Judo or Karate. I also recommend family involved self-defense lessons and classes, or at least enrolling your children in one. Other forms of self-defense can be learned through Boxing, Kick-Boxing or Archery classes.
Once your children learn the basics of self-defense they can either continue in that discipline or move on to team sports or dance. By enrolling in classes along with your kids you will not only become a healthy role model for them while you’re trimming-up, you will also teach them how to get their sports, dance and exercise on for a lifetime!
