If you have two children with birthdays very close in date, you know how difficult it can be to have two separate birthday parties. Birthday parties are expensive which creates another problem. You have to buy everything twice within a matter of a couple of weeks. Guests also have a difficult time coming to both parties sometimes because of other engagements. It only makes sense to have both birthday parties together.
Here is how to have one birthday party for two children born close in dates:
Where- Deciding where to have the birthday party is the most important part of the planning. You will need to keep in mind that there will probably be more people attending because children have a different set of friends. That means you will need more space to work with. A park with a pavilion for summer birthday parties is a good option. You won’t have to worry about a big mess afterwards and you won’t have to worry about space.
When- When you have the birthday party depends on when the actual birthdates are. Have the party as close in the middle of both birthdays. One birthday will have already occurred and the other one will have yet to happen. Keeping the party between the two dates will make it as fair as possible.
Decorations- Decorations might be iffy. You may have a boy and a girl party to plan or two of the same sex children that want different decorations. This is easily covered by purchasing decorations for both types of parties. They can be easily integrated into the one party. For instance, by your son some of the decorations he wants and your daughters as well. Half the room can be decorated in the boy style and the other in the girl style. You could also mix things together if the colors go well with each other.
Favors- As children get a little bit older, there will probably be more school friends invited to the parties. It’s always nice to give children party favors for coming to the party. This can be worked out the same way as the decorations. Let each child choose which favors they would like to get. That gives the children a chance to be a part of planning the party and they will both feel as though they contributed to choosing just the right party favor.
Opening Gifts- When it’s time to open the gifts, you may be in for more than you bargained for. Make sure that you have another adult helping with the process. If you want pictures, have a third person take them. Both children can open gifts at the same time. Hand each child a present, let them open it and keep clean as you go. You can do this by putting all the paper in a trash bag. Have the second person putting things into one pile so that they are already packed up and ready to be put into your vehicle.
Having one birthday party for two children can present special challenges. You can work those challenges out so that the party is fair to both children. You will save a lot of money in the process and you won’t have to go through the entire process twice within a couple of weeks. No one gets left out and everyone comes out satisfied with the results.
