Have players line up and take turns dancing under the limbo stick. Gradually begin to lower the stream of water. Once a player gets wet trying to go under the stream of water they are out. The last person playing is the winner of this game.
Scavenger Hunt for Summer Items
Before your guests arrive make up several lists of summer items that you have around the house such as a sand bucket, shovel, baseball, water balloon, water bottle, squirt gun etc. For younger children instead of writing the words you can draw pictures. When you are ready to play split the group into teams of at least two players and give them a list of summer items to look for. The winner of this game is the first team to bring back all of the items on their list.
Watermelon Eating Contest
For this fun summer activity use seedless watermelon so you don’t have to worry about anyone choking. To play give each player a slice of watermelon and use a stopwatch to see who can eat the most watermelon in one minute. To make the game more difficult have players put their hands behind their back and eat their watermelon by just using their mouth.
Sprinkler Freeze Dance
To play this game set up an oscillating sprinkler, put on some music and have the children dance around the yard and try to avoid the sprinkler. When the music stops they must freeze wherever they are at and let the sprinkler soak them. If they move they are out. Once the music starts back up they are free to move around the area again. The game is over when there is only one child left dancing.
Here are a couple of favor ideas that kids will love taking home as a memento of your end of summer party.
Most stores have school supplies such as crayons, pencils, markers and glue on sale for extremely low prices at the end of the summer. Take advantage of the great deals and fill a pencil box for each party guest with back to school items they are going to need in the coming school year. Use puff paints or stickers to personalize each box. You can also make personalizing the boxes into an activity at your end of summer party by providing a variety of materials and letting the children decorate their own boxes.
Tye Dye T Shirts
For this fun favor you will need to either buy or have each guest bring a white t shirt. You will also need to purchase a Tye Dye Kit. Toys R Us has a nice kit that includes everything you will need to dye up to 8 shirts. You can purchase it in their stores or on line at www.toysrus.com . This is a good activity to start at the beginning of the party so that each guest has time to make a shirt and if time allows you can even throw them in the dryer so they aren’t taking home a wet shirt.
I hope these ideas help you to plan an amazing end of summer party that your kids and guest will love and that it helps them beat the end of summer back to school blues.
