We all do way too much to our hair. We blow-dry it, curl it, and straighten it almost every day. We all want that smooth and silky look sometimes and we have to remember that the first step in attaining that silky look is by taking good care of your hair. Here are some tips to help you get started on achieving this gorgeous look.
First, get a good leave-in conditioner. It’s a 10 has a really good one and you can order it online or get it from salons. Sally Beauty Supply carries a generic for it that is actually very good called Miracle 7. Sally’s also has one by the brand Ion that is effective.
After you towel dry your hair, put a quarter-sized amount of leave-in conditioner into the palm of your hand. Rub it all through your hair and then comb it through. It will be surprisingly easy to comb through using this type of product. After you do this, apply a small amount of an oil-based product to the ends of your hair. Using very little works best as using too much can make your hair too weighted down.
What I mean by an oil based product is just anything that has a lot of oil in it and is made for your hair. You can use things like oil smoothing serums or even flat iron spray. Most flat iron sprays are very effective if you only spray about three to four squirts on before you blow-dry your hair. The purpose of applying an oil based product to your hair before blow-drying is just to product your hair from the heat of the blow-dryer.
After your blow-dry, you will need to section off your hair if your are flat ironing or curling it. Spray an additional two to three squirts of heat protection spray on each two inch section of hair. I have pretty thick hair and I can usually get away with parting my hair into three sections and spraying this amount of heat protection spray without weighing my hair down.
Last of all, you will need a smoothing cream or a smoothing serum to smooth out your ends. I really like Moroccan Oil or Argan Oil for my ends. Argan Oil is just the generic form of this, but I have found it to be a very good generic and a very much more affordable one. Apply only a pea-sized amount to the ends of your hair and you are good to go! Your frizzies will be tamed and your hair will be healthy all at the same time.
This is a good routine to get into if you are suffering from hair breakage or overworking your hair. Don’t forget to just give yourself a break sometimes and just let your hair dry naturally. Even though it’s tempting, try not to flat iron your hair every single day as well. Your hair needs days off just like you do. Use these tips when you are working your hair and your will be sure to keep your hair in tip top shape.
