I write about crafts and hobbies often. One look at a list of all of my articles and anyone can see that crafting is a large part of my life and I tend to dive into many unusual projects. Some craft projects take quite a bit of time and energy before you can see the results of your talents. I thought I would choose a project today that takes very little time and energy.
Making a mobile is one of the easiest craft projects ever. You can make them in any style you like and using any items you may have around your house to decorate it with. Here is all you will need to get started in making your very own mobile. Once you see how easy it really is, you might decide to make one for all of your family and friends for the holiday season.
Items Needed To Make A Music Charm Mobile:
1. Three wire hangers
2. String or ribbon
3. Several small items to hang from the mobile
4. Wire snips
7. Small bells (optional)
8. Music Charms
Most of the items needed for this project were items I already had around my house. I did find some perfect little bells and even colored bells here. I also found the perfect music charms for this project here.
Getting Started On The Mobile:
The first thing you will want to do is to take one of your wire hangers and using only your strength, you will want to bend and open the wire into a circle. You will then use your wire snips to snip off the curved top of your wire hanger. Save this piece as you may want to use it later to help in hanging your mobile.
After you have your circle made, you will want to snip the bottom center of your other hanger. Be sure to snip it in the very center of the bottom of the wire hanger. Use your strength to pull the hanger apart at the cut you just made. Now, you will want to attach this hanger to the circle you made by bending the ends of the cut wire around the circle wire. Be sure you keep the hanger evenly spaced on the circle of wire.
Take your last wire hanger and repeat the process of snipping it in the center of the bottom and pulling it apart. Attach this hanger just as you did the last one, keeping it evenly spaced and centered from the first hanger. These hangers should now line up in a cross across the wire circle.
Use your hands and strength to bend the tops of the two wire hangers together. You can simply twist the tops of them together making it so both hangers now form one handle at the top to hang your music mobile.
Stringing Items For The Mobile:
The person you are making the mobile for or the room you intend to hang it in will determine what types of items you will choose to hang. Whatever style you choose, be sure that the items you are going to string on your mobile are small and light. The musical charms I chose for my project were inexpensive and I found them on line here.
The trick to making your mobile beautiful is in the spacing of the items you add. Tie your string to the circle of wire and then use it to loop around and tie off any item you intend to hang. Leave enough space between the first and second item on any string that another item on a neighboring string will fall right into the gap.
It is best to use only four or six pieces of string for each mobile. Just be sure that you space your items so that all neighboring strings with items line up in the open spaces of the string next to it. You may feel like your first string has to have a huge gap between items. You can do it that way or just leave enough space that two neighboring items would fit into the space. It is key that items hanging from your mobile not be spaced so that they are bumping into each other but instead, fall nicely into the open spaces.
Finishing The Music Mobile:
After you have strung all of your items and music charms on the mobile, you will want to use your ribbon. Line it up with your string at the circle of wire and then wrap it around each string till you get to the very bottom. Tie off the end and add a bell to it. Each bell will have a space at the top of it that you can thread your ribbon through and then tie off a small knot or bow at the end.
Use your ribbon to go around all of the wire circle and also all of the top of the two hangers you are using to hang your mobile. This will give the whole project a very finished and pretty look.
