One thing I never want to become is a stuck in rut, style or fashion wise. As vain as it sounds the thought makes me shudder. Not that I was ever one to follow a trend, but I do try to stay ahead of the pack by creating a personal style that’s unique and comfortable to me. That’s not to say I don’t love to see what the runways put out or what the latest and greatest beauty finds out there are. Hey when you’re a style maven you need to keep up on these things! While my hair may go from one end of the color spectrum to the other throughout the year, one thing is for certain, I consider it a valuable accessory and I don’t find the same style daily is something I could ever live with.
The last few years have had us with pin straight hair, and while my hair can easily conform to this look, I like to take a chameleon like approach and switch it up….so, I happy to get down with the new looks that are heading our way this Spring and Summer. We are finally going to lay those irons to rest and branch out, big is coming back and I love what’s coming our way!
Teased, curled and waves galore. Loose buns, twisted and sexy braids and ponytails with some funk! Getting the look will be easy if you have the right tools at your fingertips. There are tons of ways to achieve the loose curl look, and it can be wild and carefree or tuned down and professional, it’s all a matter of personal taste.
First let’s tackle the obvious, curling irons and curlers. If your weapon of choice is a curling iron, I have three tips to keep the curls going and battle them falling flat. One is to go light on the conditioner. If you’re washing prior to styling, just hits the bottom two inches of your hair with conditioner and of course rinse well. Two, don’t touch the curl until it’s completely cooled – this means move around your head in sections, working the iron however you choose to curl, but don’t pull, style or move them until your whole head is done and cooled. It’s the same theory as hitting your hair with the cool button on the hair dryer. A cooled hair cuticle locks the style in. Lastly hit it with light mist of hairspray, that will hold the curl but not cause a helmet head effect. Nothing is less sexy than hair that looks and feels stiff and hard. Be sure to hold the spray at least twelve inches when misting and do so in light layers to avoid “wet spots” and “hair crunchy”.
Rollers work great and are a perfect addition to your arsenal. Whether you choose hot rollers or ones placed in when your hair is damp, their possibilities are endless. Use a volume building shampoo and conditioner and work a small amount of the same type of styling product through your locks prior to putting them in. Prior to taking them out hit them with a cool shot from your hair dryer. Again it’ll lock in the style and boost the shine. Don’t brush your curls, instead gently style them with your fingertips. Voila, sexy mama!
Last trick to achieving the loose and sexy lockets of hairs is easily done on damp hair and will give you a sexy, easy curl that can move from day to night with ease. Work a styling product through damp hair right down to the tips and working in two inch sections, twist each as if you were twirling it around your finger. Pin the sections or bun them loosely around your head, securing with hair bands or pins. If you’re in a rush blow dry them this way, or you can leave them in for a nice and less damaging air dry. Once their completely dry, remove the holders, flip your hair upside down and shake. Oomph! Easy and hot! Spritz it with a light mist of hair spray and your gorgeous style will be ready to go.
The beauty about working with curls is the a little messy can equal sexy. You can get them started when your hair is damp you can carry on with the five million other things you need to accomplish, i.e. makeup, mani touch ups and picking out your clothes. Curls also allow you a variety of looks and styles with some simple switch ups, think a loose pony or wispy braids. The possibilities are endless and only limited by your imagination and desired style so get rolling on the latest style and unleash the curls.
