I recently purchased a Straight Talk cell phone after being lured in by their $45 for unlimited everything plan. It was the cheapest plan I could find and was too good of a deal to pass up. The phone worked perfectly the first month and I had absolutely no complaints. I purchased a new service card for another month of service and refilled my phone the night that my service plan expired. The next morning when I tried to make a call, I got a message saying that I didn’t have enough time for the call even though I’d just refilled the phone the night before.
I figured it would only take a quick call to the Straight Talk customer service line to get the problem fixed. Little did I know that I was in for a day-long headache. I stayed on hold for over 3 hours listening to an endless loop of a recorded voice telling me that my call was important and someone would be with me in just a moment. I finally realized that I was never going to get through to customer service and reluctantly hung up the phone.
Next, I hopped online and for the next 4 hours chased down lead after lead trying to track down a way to get in touch with Straight Talk customer service. I emailed a Straight Talk customer service rep who had given his email address on Twitter. I posted on the Straight Talk Facebook page and chatted with other Straight Talk customers who were having similar problems and were just as frustrated as I was. Every time one of us found another tidbit of information relating to Straight Talk we would post it, but seemed to come up with nothing but dead ends.
Finally, someone posted the customer service phone number for TracFone, which is the company that owns Straight Talk. Within minutes, I had a customer service rep on the line and 10 minutes after that my phone was up and running again. As soon as people started posting their success with using the TracFone customer service line, others began to find help for their own phone issues as well.
I’m sure this won’t be the last time that a customer has an issue with their Straight Talk phone. But next time, I will definitely be more prepared.
