How to Be (or, at Least, Appear to Be) a Man of Culture and Sophistication

by itchyfish

There are many men out there who know very little outside their jobs. The don’t know literature or the things that come with enjoying travel, such as an appreciation for fine food, drink and foreign cultures.

In fact, there are some men who find the whole idea of rubbing reading centuries-old fiction and rubbing elbows with foreigners repellent. And, if you are one of them, then this article is not for you. I’m sure there’s a nice town in east Texas that you’d feel quite at home in, though. And, you’re likely to find women who share your blue collar interests. And, there’s nothing wrong with that.

But, if you like the idea of expanding your world view and appealing to women who maintain more cosmopolitan interests, then I have a few suggestions. These are things you can do to be more of interest to more intelligent and discerning women.

#1. Read a lot of books, both fiction and non-fiction. Sometimes there is more truth in fiction. Your best bet is to select a handful of classics and start there. See what sparks your interest. Strive to find something of interest in whatever you read.

#2. Learn as much as you can about everything you can. Be prepared to talk about anything to anyone at any time. If you do run across a subject in conversation that you don’t know about, listen with genuine interest and learn as much as you can about it.

#3. Travel as much as possible and learn as much as you can about other countries and cultures. Learn a foreign language. Doing so actually increases the neuropathways in your brain, literally expanding your mind. It helps you to understand your own language better, too. Thoroughly learning another language will change how your mind processes whatever your senses take in and help you in all of your communications.

#4. Whether you wear your hair long or short, always keep it neat and clean. Always keep your clothes clean and pressed. Keep your nails clean and pay attention to all other details of your personal grooming.

#5. Always be polite and well-mannered. Learn etiquette. Go to the library and check out a book on the subject. Try to avoid excessive profanity. It can make you seem roguish.

#6. Be careful who you make friend with. Cultivate relationships with good people. Avoid junkies, criminals and other dubious characters.

#7. Have clean habits. Go to the gym and eat well. Avoid smoking and excessive drinking.

#8. Go to interesting places such as clubs, museums, art galleries, libraries, charities or civic organizations. Avoid bars, taverns and night clubs.

These are some examples of you can expand your horizons in very real ways and have genuine appeal for more educated, cosmopolitan women.
