He arrived at the hotel parking lot. Parking was $34 a night. As transportation from and to the airport was included in his convention fee, he didn’t need to rent a car or pay for parking. Multi-lingual staff provided good service at check in as well as everywhere at Hilton in Durban, South Africa.
Inside this Hilton Hotel is Lobby Lounge Coffee Bar, Rivets Bar, and Rainbow Terrace Restaurant. There’s a clothing store, gift shop, ATM, and news stand. There’s also a business center and exercise room.

He checked into the King Hilton Guest Room which had two nice comfortable double beds. One was used for luggage. Toiletries were provided, along with a coffee pot, coffee, and tea. The clean bathroom included a roomy shower and toilet. Also included with the room were a hairdryer, safe, electronic locks, and high-speed internet access. His work provided Blackberry came with adapters to use with the South African hotel’s outlets.

His business schedule allowed free time to watch TV. The TV had two 24 hour soccer channels and many movies to watch. The hotel’s windows provided views of the convention center and other hotels. He photographed it and captured a UFO, which could be a light’s reflection in the hotel’s large window.
His room window provided a view of Sahara Stadium Kingsmead and the arches of Moses Mabhida Stadium which will take part in Soccer’s / Football’s 2010 FIFA World Cup. Just beyond that is Kings Park Stadium or ABSA Stadium where Michael Jackson and Celine Dion concerts have been held and which was part of the 1995 Rugby World Cup.

On a city tour with others from the convention, he visited was Durban Botanic Gardens. This tourist attraction is located a short distance away. At Durban Botanic Gardens he photographed orchid flowers, birds, and fig trees. They also drove past stadiums.
They saw Vasco da Gama Clock and Madari and Sons in a market on Fishmarket Street. Large mounds of spice were for sale. The informative salesman provided cooking tips and how to pack spice when traveling.
One day, he took a cab to a beach-side shopping center. He visited Suncoast Casino. Then, he stood on the beach in cold, windy August weather and photographed the Indian Ocean.

The Hilton in Durban, South Africa had a variety of great tasting, fresh, food for reasonable prices. The large selection of international foods included American favorites. He ate at Hilton Hotel’s Rainbow Terrace Restaurant buffet for breakfast and at Rivets Bar for dinner. The Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre provided free lunch one day. He sampled the first day and picked favorites following days. Everything was good.
My dad enjoyed his business trip stay at Hilton Hotel in Durban, South Africa. He brought home souvenirs purchased at the convention center and hotel gift shop including a handmade wooden lion. He also took great pictures including UFOs and orchids, and his Hilton HHonors card earned points for free Hilton Hotel stays and sped up check in. He looks forward to another stay at Hilton.
