Homemade July 4th Party Decorations from Recycled Materials

by itchyfish

You can make homemade July 4th party decorations from recycled materials easily. July 4th is a great holiday for parties, and making homemade decorations from recycled materials is inexpensive and environmentally friendly. This article will provide you with detailed instructions on creating a July 4th garland, centerpiece, and star wreath using recycled materials.

Fourth of July Garland

For this recycled July 4th garland you will need ribbon, a hole puncher or penknife, acrylic paint, a paintbrush, old plastic lids, and scissors. You may also want to lay newspaper on the table beforehand to protect the surface.

Start this homemade decoration craft by using the hole puncher or penknife to make a hole or x in the sides of each lid. This is where you will string them together with the ribbon. Lay all of the lids on the newspaper. Use the acrylic paint to paint the lids red, white, and blue. Feel free to write a message by painting a single letter on each lid. You can also paint stars patterns or flag patterns on the lids themselves. Allow all of the lids to dry.

Cut the ribbon into several 6 inch pieces while the lids dry. When the recycled lids are dried string them together by adding the ribbon to the holes. Tie the ribbons into a bow to assemble this garland. The end ribbons can be twice as long and tied into a knot to allow ribbon to hang the garland from. This July 4th decoration is easily homemade while using recycled materials.

Bottle Cap Centerpiece

A fun and unique July 4th centerpiece can be made using recycled bottle caps. For this homemade decoration you will need red, white, and blue paint, foam balls, a glass bowl, a paintbrush, newspaper, and glue.

Start by laying the newspaper on the table with the bottle caps on top of the newspaper. Then paint the bottle caps with the red white and blue paints. Feel free to add designs such as stripes and stars to the individual bottle caps. Allow the bottle caps to dry.

To assemble this July 4th decoration add a drop of glue to the bottom of the recycled bottle cap. Press the bottle cap into the foam ball. Cover the entire ball with bottle caps and allow to dry. After the balls have dried simply place them in a glass bowl to display your July 4th decoration.

Red, White, and Blue Wreath

Another homemade July 4th decoration that uses recycled paper and plastic is also easy to make. For this homemade craft you will need a hanger, scissors, and red, white, and blue paper or plastic. Start by collecting materials such as mail, packaging, plastic bags, and newspapers.

Then bend the hanger into a circle and untwist the ends. Using a scissor cut the papers into small pieces about 4 inches in diameter. Also cut a small hole in the middle of the recycled pieces. String the pieces onto the hanger until it is completely covered. Twist the ends back together and add a bow to the middle of the wreath if you like.

Making homemade July 4th decorations is fun and inexpensive when using recycled materials. These easy crafts are a great addition to your home this July 4th.
