Homemade Games to Play with a Cat

by itchyfish

Dogs are not the only four-legged pets that love to play. Cats enjoy playing too. They have natural hunting instincts and playful personalities, and people enjoy watching their antics. Try these fun homemade games you can play with your cat, and put away the expensive cat toys. Felines do not need costly kitty fishing rods, feathered gloves, and other store-bought toys to have fun playing games with their favorite people.

Homemade Under the Door Games

Cats love playing games where they pretend their prey is trying to get away, and this is why their toys often end up under appliances and in closets. When trying to come up with homemade games to play with your cat, simply ball up a small lightweight piece of paper. Make sure it will fit under a door. While the cat is outside that door, swat the balled paper beneath it. Before long you will see little paws batting it back. These simple homemade games of cat and mouse can go on for a long time. Unlike toy mice and other games the cat plays alone, this pretend prey will come back again and again as long as someone is willing to play. All that is required is a door with a little space underneath, a little ball of paper, and a playful cat.

Easy Homemade Yarn Mice on Strings for Games of Chase

Store-bought mice are not necessary when looking for games to play with a feline. Homemade yarn mice are just as interesting and far less expensive. Simply make a small knotted ball of yarn on the end of a long piece. It should be long enough to stand up without bending over while playing games with the cat. Pull it around corners, next to chairs, and around places the cat will hide and suddenly pounce from. Homemade games such as these are very inexpensive and simple, but they are loads of fun for the cat.

Homemade Games of Kitty Hide-and-Go-Seek

One of the most enjoyable and exciting homemade games to play with a feline is hide-and-go-seek. When the cat sees you sneaking around corners and darting behind furniture, he will realize you are ready to play. While the cat is not looking, duck behind a chair or another large piece of furniture. Instead of waiting for the cat to find you, crawl out toward the cat. Chances are he will catch on fast to these homemade games and begin stalking on his own.

Homemade Fishing Rod Games

Why spend money on expensive fishing rods especially for cats when homemade versions are easy to devise? Outfit a child-size fishing pole with a plastic dummy weight and securely gathered craft feathers. Gently cast the feathers across the room, and slowly and sporadically reel them back in. Your favorite feline will love these fun homemade games, and you will love the money you save over store-bought versions that are not necessary.
