Branson, Mo. — Home sales have declined two percent in May versus the same period in April even though home sales are up just over 19 percent for the year, according to CNN. Home prices are still down and interest rates are perfect if you can find a loan and a bank that will give you the money for a house. Now that the $8,000 credit for home buying has expired it will be interesting to see how the housing market does in June.
In the Buying Mood
My wife and I decided earlier this year that we would find a bigger and meatier house in which to live. Securing a loan took longer than expecting due to down payment requirements, but as soon as we got a price range we started looking for a home to fit our needs.
My wife and I are converting our careers to being more and more at home so we’d like an upgrade with offices. We still want to live in Branson for our children’s circle of friends. We’re looking for a five bedroom house because two of those bedrooms will be offices. Much like the George Carlin skit, we need more room because we have more stuff now that the kids are older.
We’ve seen about a dozen homes over the past two weekends. We need breathing room and are looking for about 3,000 square feet, single level, and about $200,000. We’re pretty sure we can find one that fits our needs perfectly in this market perfect for buyers. We do have wiggle room on the design, but we’d like this to be one of the final homes we ever buy.
We are excited about the homes we’ve looked at thus far. They are all cozy, well-priced, and the selection is widely varied. The southwest Missouri area hasn’t fully been engulfed in the recession so things aren’t as bad as other parts of the United States yet we can tell many more homes are for sale than usual.
One property that we felt like was very good on the outside is this gem on Pointe Royale. The house a bit older and we wanted to try to find a newer house than 1988. While the property was spacious with cathedral ceilings and on a golf course, this home felt a bit claustrophobic and too bunched together in the overall plan. We felt we could get more for the price at $230,000 and away from the traffic.
This house was roomy and lots of outdoors space but it was priced too high for now. Otherwise, it’s perfect for a newer home with a wooded view. Check out the pictures from one of the best realty companies that isn’t a national chain. My wife and I are debating waiting to save for this house or look for something cheaper. It’s very near the lake, away from the major traffic, and very scenic on Trinity Road for around $250,000.
The closest fit that we’ve found so far is this lovely newer home built in 2009. It has two levels and two bedrooms in the basement. Yes, it’s a cookie-cutter home but fits our needs nicely with added space on Deauville Circle. This home will do for the price even though more expensive homes would be better. This home fits the price at $208,000.
If we could afford the house on Trinity Road we would buy it in a heartbeat. What we love about buying a home now is that Realtors are willing to wheel and deal. The only problem is that the banks aren’t so liberal in their thinking.
