TMZ and MTV are reporting Heidi Montag had her estranged husband Spencer Pratt served with divorce papers late last week and is on her way to finalizing her divorce from her former “Hills” co-star.
Pratt, who hasn’t contested the divorce, reportedly signed the papers for Montag’s lawyers and is hoping to move on with his life as soon as possible. Montag’s lawyer, Jodeane Farrell, said in a statement, “Both Heidi and Spencer are in agreement to settle their divorce as quickly as possible without the need of a court appearance.” The divorce should be settled within six months from the day Spencer Pratt signed the papers, as long as both parties are able to work together to settle property and money.
The couple were married officially in April 2009 in a lavish Pasadena, California wedding ceremony which followed their “rumored” wedding on the beach in Mexico in 2008. While Heidi said in a statement she still loves Spencer, she is looking for a more slow pace to her life that includes a family, while Spencer was more interested in the Hollywood lifestyle of women and hard partying.
Both Heidi and Spencer took to Twitter following the announcement of the divorce papers being signed to tweet about their future plans. Pratt tweeted about his new 3-D movie he is producing while Heidi tweeted, “finally hav[ing] some girl time in my life for the first time in years! Cleaning house and getting rid of my old life, it feels good to live fresh.”
Friends and family became worried about Heidi prior to the divorce saying Spencer controlled her life and was the driving force behind her getting plastic surgery, including ten procedures in one day. Her mother told People Magazine earlier this year she had not spoken to her daughter since she came to her home in Colorado with a “Hills” film crew to film her reaction to her plastic surgery. It was reported both Heidi and Spencer had become home-bound recluses.
Heidi recently dropped out of a reality show she planned to make with friend Jen Bunney to focus more on her music and acting career.
In July Heidi told TMZ, “this has been a heartbreaking experience to go through, and it’s not that I don’t love Spencer. We just want different things in life.”
She went on to explain the couple hasn’t lived together in some time and have tried to remain friends, but she doesn’t speak to Spencer as often as she would like to. “Spencer and I are finally moving forward with our lives, but with any divorce, there is much to work through. We’ve been together almost five years. There are assets to divide, work to be discussed, and we share our puppies.”
Spencer was quoted in an interview shortly before the official announcement of the couple breaking up that he was more focused on being a big name in Hollywood while Heidi would rather stay home and be a mother to her puppies. He went on to say that lifestyle doesn’t suit what he wants.
