Although I acquired the taste late in life, I am a huge fan of Asian inspired food. I love the flavors and textures. I also appreciate that so much of it is healthy. That could be why I really love Healthy Choice’s Asian Inspired frozen dinners.
Unfortunately, there is one Healthy Choice Cafe Steamer that I do not care for at all. It is their Sweet Sesame Chicken.
It sounded good when I first read the label. If includes chicken tenderloins, mixed vegetables and white rice in a sweet and spicy sauce. Usually that is right up my alley. But this one disappoints.
Let’s begin by talking about the good things associated with this dinner. The meal contains 17 grams of protein, 3 grams of fiber and 450 milligrams of potassium.
It also provides 40% of the daily-recommended amount of vitamin A; 25% of the needed vitamin E; 20% of the required folic acid, niacin and phosphorus; 15% of the needed vitamin B6 and 10% of the recommended amount of vitamin B12 and magnesium. It also has 8% of the required riboflavin; 6% of the needed thiamin and zinc as well as 4% of the recommended amount of calcium and 2% of the needed vitamin C.
Now lets talk about the things that aren’t so good about the dinner. The Healthy Choice’s Sweet Sesame Chicken Cafe Steamer has a few more calories than most of its sister dinners. It contains 340 calories. Of that amount, 50 are fat related.
That equates to 6 grams of fat. While there is no trans fat, there is 1 gram of saturated fat, 2 grams of polyunsaturated fat and 2.5 grams of monounsaturated fat.
Additionally there are 53 grams of carbohydrate, 18 grams of sugar, 330 milligrams of sodium and 30 milligrams of cholesterol. Those could make the choice of this dinner an unpopular one among individuals who are watching their carb, sugar, sodium, and cholesterol intake.
Healthy Choice’s Sweet Sesame Chicken Cafe Steamer is made for the microwave. It is quick ‘” under 5 minutes ‘” and easy to make.
To prepare begin by removing the meal from its cardboard outer sleeve. Place it into the microwave with the top film coating in tact. It will vent on its own so do not cut a slit into the film.
Microwave on high, setting the timer for 5 minutes. Once it is done, let it sit for about 1 minute.
To serve, peel away the plastic top, being sure to pull the film so that the steam vents away from the body. Next, remove the upper bowl from the lower bowl and set aside or plate as desired. Pour the sauce from the lower bowl over the meal. Mix the ingredients together thoroughly and serve.
Those using a pyramid diet chart can count Healthy Choice’s Sweet Sesame Chicken Cafe Steamer as 30% of the daily amount of required vegetables and meat and 25% of the need grains. For individuals using the Weight Watchers point system, the meal equals 6 points. For those who follow the diet exchange program, it equates to 3 starches, 1 lean meat, 1 vegetable and ½ fat.
The ingredients of Healthy Choice’s Sweet Sesame Chicken Cafe Steamer include carrots, chicken, cilantro, garlic, honey, miscellaneous spices, mushrooms, olive oil, paprika, pineapple juice, red bell pepper, rice and rice vinegar, sake, salt, sesame oil and seed, snow peas, soy sauce, sugar and water. It also contains caramel coloring, carrageenan, dextrose, modified starches, potassium chloride, sodium phosphate, soy lecithin, soy protein.
Healthy Choice’s Sweet Sesame Chicken Cafe Steamer can be found anywhere that Healthy Choice dinners are sold. That includes the frozen food section of most major grocery stores as well as in some discount department stores that have an extensive food department.
