HealthCare.gov is a new informational government Website that was launched as a part of the Affordable Care Act that was signed into law by President Barack Obama this March. The new health-care bill does not actually go into effect until 2014. The Department of Health and Human Services required the government to have a Website ready for comparison shopping for medical insurance by July 1st, 2010. Here is a detailed overview of the HealthCare.gov Webite and all of its features.
The Website is very user friendly, it has options for people to see both public and private health-coverage. The design of the Website is to offer information about health insurance so consumers can try to get the best value. You can look for coverage based on your age, health needs and location. It is designed to help Americans make informed decisions about health care coverage by giving us easily understood information about benefits, protection for families, individuals and employees.
Right now the Website focuses on five main areas: finding health insurance, learning about preventative health care, comparing hospital care and quality and learning more about the new law the affordable care act. It is still a work in progress, by October 2010 they are supposed to have added information on about 5,100 private health care insurance plans, including pricing.

This is the first section on the Website HealthCare.gov here you will find public community and private programs for your personal needs. First you will answer a few basic questions like your state, your insurance situation, medical conditions and the age of people needing coverage. It will then display some options that are best for your health care needs, and you can compare them.
Learn about Prevention
In the second tab on HealthCare.gov you will find some wonderful information for everyone. There is an interactive tool called the health finder where you insert your age and sex. Then it will display age appropriate prevention tips on how to stay young and healthy.
Compare Care Quality
On this part of the Website, you will be directed to another Website called hospitalcare.hhs.gov. This Website is ran by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Once you are there you enter your location and what type of medical care you are in need of. You will then be provided help to compare the quality of different Hospitals.
Understand The New Law
In the fourth section of HealthCare.gov it is to help everyone to understand the basics of the new Affordable Care Act Law. It gives you a timeline of what parts of the law is going into effect and when. You are able to get an overview of the new law, or if you choose to you have the opportunity to read all 974 pages online.
Information For You
Under the last section you will find useful information about the new law and all the upcoming changes for all individuals. They have a section for: families with children, individuals, pregnant women, people with disabilities, seniors, young adults and employers. It has the answers to many frequently asked questions about what to expect from the new law.
I think the Website HealthCare.gov is a wonderful thing. It is full of helpful resources that are put in easy to understand terms. Many people did not know hardly anything about this new law before now. At this Website they are able to see what will be changing in the future, what will be ending and what new things are coming with this law. This useful government Website gives everyone access to the law, information and features to help them get the most benefit from the Affordable Care Act Law.
