Handmade Father’s Day Crafts

by itchyfish

With 2010 Father’s Day coming up, kids begin to want to make their fathers something to show that they care. Here are a few Father’s Day crafts that kids can use to make something wonderful for Dad.

Hand Painted Hammer

Every dad can use an extra hammer to accomplish all of the household repairs. Not only is it useful, but it is also personalized and also from the heart.

What you’ll Need:

1 Hammer with a wood handle
Sand paper
Acrylic paint of assorted colors
White acrylic paint
Paintbrushes
1 Black marker, fine point
Clear acrylic glaze

First, sand the handle of the hammer so that all previously applied coatings are removed. Also, sand it enough so that a slightly rough surface is formed.

Next, paint the handle with the white paint. Paint one side white and let it dry. Then paint the other side white and allow it to dry.

Once the handle is dry. Painted it anyway you like. Get creative and make some fun designs. Be sure to paint one side of the handle first and allow it to dry. Then paint the other side.

After both sides have dried completely. Paint the handle with the clear sealant. Be sure to do this in a well-ventilated area. Let it dry and apply a second coat. Allow it to dry overnight.

Denim Gift Basket for Dad

This idea is something that Dad is sure to love. The gift basket can be filled with lots of Dad’s favorite things. Plus, the handmade basket adds a personalized touch. Here is how to make it.

What You’ll Need:

An Easter Basket
1 old pair of denim jeans (smaller sizes are a little easier to work with)
1 piece of plaid material (you can use an old shirt or boxers)
2 pieces of felt
Hot glue gun
Craft glue
Scissors

First, cover the handle of the basket with the plaid material. Then cut the jeans into sections. Using the hot glue gun, glue the pieces to the outside of the basket.

Next, using the craft glue, glue the felt on the entire inside of the basket.

Cut two strips from the denim and tie them to the ends of the basket handle.

Then cut the plaid material into squares to cover up seems.

Lastly, fill it with any goodies that Dad will love. Other Father’s Day ideas for goodies can be making handmade cards, personalized mugs or pens are a few ideas to add. A gift certificate to his favorite store is also a loved gift. The possibilities are endless.

Making Father’s Day gifts are not only a great way to show dad that you care but also are even more special because they are hand made.
