A lot of us ladies have heard this from our grandparents: “Your hair is your crowning glory, so you should always wear your hair long.” As we grew older, we realized more and more each day how powerful that statement really is and so we always look for ways to grow our hair long and healthy.
Taking care of one’s long hair is not an act of vanity. It is a smart choice to avoid all-encompassing hair problems that involve self-esteem, mood swings, expensive treatments, etc. It does not matter if we are wearing a short hair or a long hair. The following tips will apply. However, those who are serious about growing their hair long will benefit a lot from these tips.
Avoid wearing bands and ribbons. These things pull our hair from our scalp, causing unnecessary stress on our hair strands, and so our long hair gets weak.
Stay away from curling irons and chemical treatments for dyeing or perming. The more natural and organic our hair care system is, the more possible it is for us to have a healthy long hair.
Anything artificial is stressful for our long hair – even our regular shampoo. Shampooing thrice a week is enough. But conditioning it every day is good, especially if we don’t want split ends to ruin the general look of our long hair.
Dry your hair naturally. If we must use a hair dryer, then we should use it only as a finishing touch to dry the ends of our long hair. Most hair drying work should be done by our hands and not some heated hair damaging tools.
Trim your hair regularly. Even as we are growing our hair long to reach a fitting length that brings out our best look, it is important to keep the hair ends healthy as well. It may take time to grow our hair long enough, but at least we’re sure we are free from split ends. Half an inch is enough for trimming.
Protect your long hair when you go swimming, either in the pool or at the beach. Chlorine and saltwater are inorganic to our hair so it is best to remain protected from these elements.
Remove all the knots in your long hair before shampooing. The knots will get worse once subjected to water combined with chemicals. We should comb our long hair before taking a shower to get a smoother and gentler interaction between our hair strands and our shampoo.
Finally, we should use aloe vera extract or virgin coconut oil at least once a month to deep condition our hair right from the scalp.
