The Maryland Department of the Environment and Clean Air Partners are sponsoring the Great Maryland Lawnmower exchange August 14. The inspiration behind the exchange is to encourage state residents to swap their gas mowers for discounts on new electric Neuton lawnmowers.
Americans burn 800 million gallons of gas mowing their lawns each year, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. In one hour of mowing, a gas mower emits the same amount of volatile organic compounds as 350 miles of driving does. Gas lawn mowers are responsible for 5% of the country’s air pollution.
But it’s not just mowing lawns with a gas mower that pollutes the environment. Americans spill 17 million gallons of gas each year when filling mowers and other lawn and garden equipment.
During the Great Maryland Lawnmower Exchange, state residents turn in their gas mowers and buy one of two models of Neuton electric mower at a 66% discount. The two models are the Neuton CE 5 with a 14″ blade and the Neuton CE 6 with a 19″ blade. The Maryland Great Lawnmower Exchange program is making 1,000 discounted electric mowers available. Marylanders interested in making the exchange are required to pre-register through Clean Air Partners. The trade-in takes place at Parking Lot C in Camden Yards.
Neuton electric lawnmowers have been featured in several others states’ and localities’ lawnmower exchange programs besides Maryland’s, sometimes as the sole option and sometimes as one of various manufacturer’s models offered. Marylanders contemplating exchanging their gas mowers can look to the experience of lawnmower owners who made the swap of gas for a Neuton electric in Orange County, California; South Carolina; Colorado; Ft. Worth, Texas; Kentucky; and Clark County, Nevada among other locales or can educate themselves by reading reviews.
Great Maryland Lawnmower Exchange- A Bargain?
Two models of discounted Neuton electric mowers are available under the Great Maryland Lawnmower Exchange. The Neuton CE 5 will sell for $135 after trade-in, while the CE 6 will sell for $175. Although the information supporting the Great Maryland Lawnmower Exchange values the Neuton CE 5 at $399, the mower is on sale by Neuton itself for $359 and for $362 at an Amazon store.
The Neuton CE 6 is advertised as having a value of $499 and is being sold to Marylanders trading in gas mowers for $175. The manufacturer is selling this model at present for $449.
