Mostly everyone loves fighting games. Of all the games I used to play, it was the ones that involved physical combat that interested me the most. Not much has changed. I still enjoy the fighting games; especially now more than ever that the games have become interactive and I become a part of the actual fight. But my attraction to fighting games has grown since I started playing Gold’s Gym Cardio Workout for Nintendo Wii.
Gold’s Gym Cardio Workout for Nintendo Wii
I recently joined gold’s gym; but only it was not at the actual gym, it was on my Nintendo Wii. Who would have thought that they gym atmosphere could be taken to the inside of my home? This game uses a different avatar than your Mii that was first created with your Wii. You can choose from a number of different trainers to workout with who directs you on your fitness journey.
With the trainer provided within the virtual game, he or she trains you with different types of punches, crunches, pushups, squats and more. On just my first experience using Gold’s Gym Cardio Workout for Nintendo Wii, my trainer had me throw a thousand punches and do six minutes each of crunches, pushups, leg raises and squats. I never felt as motivated as I do now.
To play Gold’s Gym, you need the Wii remote and the numchuck. You hold the Wii remote in your right hand and the numchuck in your left hand. From experience, I would suggest that if you get this game, to get the wireless numchuck because the wire can often get in the way and the punches may not be read from your hands getting tangled in the wire. Gold’s Gym Cardio workout is also Wii balance board compatible. While you workout, you can use the Wii balance board to track your progress and do a number of the exercises provided within the virtual game.
In shape boxing, you are trained on different levels on different punches and fighting techniques. You might do a routine on jabbing, uppercuts, left hooks or ducking; all which is very intense. The different levels you can train on include basic beginner, intermediate, and advanced. What I like about this part of the game is that through the shape boxing training, players gain gold coins you can use to buy new gear for your avatar. You can also open up different levels, games and exercises through the shape boxing.
In the Boxing Examination portion of the Gold’s Gym Cardio Workout, your trainer tests you on different punches and fighting techniques to see if you grasped what was taught to you in Shape Boxing. The trainer tests you on different techniques which you have to try on four different attempts and are scored on each. If you can score high enough you pass and move on to the next level of testing. But if you fail, you have to retry the testing until you pass it. The testing starts at level E and descends down with each test becoming harder and harder.
Being that Gold’s Gym Cardio Workout is a purely workout type of game, you are working out no whether you are Shape boxing or in the exercise segment. The Exercise segment however gets more interesting. In the Wii Exercise segment, you can use your Wii Balance Board platform to do different exercises which include three minutes each of crunches, leg lifts, squats and two minutes of pushups. Other exercises included in this section are punching exercises, using a punch bag, rope jumping and more.
Total Punch Count
Some games check your progress with timing but Gold’s Gym Cardio Workout checks your progress based on your punch total. For every punch you do and after every workout routine, a total of punches that you did, gets calculated.
As you workout, you can choose from a number of different tunes to workout to. Are you feeling like a “Warrior?” How about using the tune “Warrior” to workout to? Or maybe you want to workout to the tune “Angel of Love.” Or maybe you rather workout to the song “Eye of The Tiger.” There are over ten different tracks you can choose from before working out. And if you feel like changing the song while working out, you can easily press the + or – control on your remote to change it while in the midst of a workout.
This game is so intense and I truly love it. I never thought a video game could have me feeling as if I had went to the gym but I am sore and it feels great. I think this game is going to really help me to meet my fitness goals. I try to use a different game everyday while trying to attain my fitness goals. Since I got the Wii and Wii fit, I have been working out on a daily basis. I went from doing a thousand punches and six minutes each of the exercises to 250 rope jumps, 2000 punches, 150 squats, 75 crunches, 30 push ups, and 30 leg lift. Gold’s gym cardio for Wii is no joke. With the game, you receive a fee 7 day VIP pass to Gold’s Gym. How cool is that. My body is feeling great and I feel so much more optimistic and it’s great. I actually really love Gold’s Gym Cardio Workout for Nintendo Wii. It is a great game.
