You don’t have to leave your house to find a variety of secret household cleaners you already own. Learn to “think out of the box” to find new uses for things already in your pantry and save money! Following are a dozen items that can easily cut grime, just check your cupboard for these and start using them.
Household cleaner #1-Coffee grounds (new or used) can cut odors in the fridge as efficiently as a box of baking soda. Place some in a bowl, set in the fridge and remember to replace every month or two. You’ll have a fresh smelling fridge all the time!
Household cleaner #2 – Use a potato cut in half to remove mud from a slipcover or blanket. Rub the cut end on the muddy fabric, soak it in cool water, and throw it in your next load of laundry.
Household cleaner #3- Houseplants such as English Ivy, Ferns, Mums, and palms can remove 87% of pollutants in the air inside your home.
Household cleaner #4- Use rice to clean narrow bottles, vases, and glass hummingbird feeders by placing 2 tablespoons in the container, add warm water, cover with hand and shake vigorously. This works very well and is easy!
Household cleaner #5 – Air dry! Give your chandeliers a quick clean with a blow dryer (set on low), or a feather duster. For a tougher job, mix one part vodka to 5 parts water in a spray bottle. Spritz on the fixtures and then blow dry.
Household cleaner #6 – Practice your swing! On the end of a golf club, or over the bristles of your broom, wrap a microfiber cloth and secure with a rubber band. Now practice your swing in the air to clean cobwebs in high, hard to reach places.
Household cleaner #7- Use hairspray to clean walls your children have used as a canvas. Just mist the wall with hairspray and immediately wipe to remove marks made with a colored marker.
Household cleaner #8– Scrub walls with a tooth paste covered toothbrush to remove stubborn crayon marks.
Household cleaner #9 – A dab of ketchup works great to shine brass. Put a little of the condiment onto a cloth, rub the brass item, rinse with water and dry completely with a towel.
Household cleaner #10- Usea mild dish detergent and water to clean floors, counters and bathrooms. Harsher cleaners are not always needed.
Household cleaner #11- Instead of floor cleaner use Listerine mouthwash! Add a capful to warm water to mop vinyl or tile. Do not use this mixture on wood.
Household cleaner #12- Use dental floss to clean the cutting disc on your electric can opener.
Household cleaner #13 – An (extra tip) for good measure is to fill a 16 oz. spray bottle with white vinegar and 3 tablespoons of salt. Spray copper, let it sit a few minutes, and then rub clean.
