Give Your Bedroom a Glam Makeover

by itchyfish

Put glam back in your bedroom.

When we think of a luxurious bedroom we often think of rich linens and silks, vanities in polished woods, lighting that is sift and beautiful rugs and curtains hanging from ornate rods over big windows.

But how in the world do we accomplish this sophisticated, often European, look in our own homes?

First you will need to establish a mood in the bedroom. This seems like it would be pretty easy to do, but when you think about it, it might be a hard thing to figure out how a room can have a mood.

We all know that bedrooms need certain furniture. We all have beds, obviously, a dresser. Nightstand, maybe a curtain or two, and sometimes we have a smaller dresser or vanity table. But what else can we add to make our room really stand out in Hollywood glam style?

To build a mood in the bedroom, you really need to focus on layers patterns, colors, and textures and focus on the lighting.

For the bedroom, it is almost always best to go with softer lighting. You can achieve this by adding some side tables at different heights around the different pieces of furniture you already have, or adding larger lights or ceiling lights on dimmers. These are easy to install and can be found at most home improvement stores for a low price.

Color is also very important, so grab a gallon of paint. For a European feel of romance you might choose golden colors. This golden look on your wall can soften harsh edges and look expensive.

If you don’t want to spend too much on the entire room, the one main focus should be the bed itself. Of course, this seems simple. You can always have a canopy or large headboard.

Bring in a nice upholstered chair to sit in the corner under a reading lamp. You can even layer some pillows on top and add a small footstool to add more detail. Chaise lounges are really great pieces that are both functional and look very glamorous in the bedroom. You can often find these at stores for less than you might think. If they aren’t in the fabric of your choosing, pick a solid color and add a nice throw that pulls the room together. A nice fluffy white quilt with ruffles will add tons of texture and be useful at the same time.

Bring in some fresh flowers and fill vases around the room. Surround some pictures in ornate frames in front of the vases to create an old world feed. Set these on your dresser or nightstand instead of the normal alarm clock. Stack a few books that you have found at a local antique store under the vases or picture frames for an even more layered look.

Bring in antique china and hang on the wall over a guest bed and add some whimsical pillows or a small bench at the end of the bed for added seating. You can also do this in your worn bedroom if you don’t have the money for a headboard.

There are many ways to make your room a little more glamorous without having to sacrifice too much money in the process.
