Food from the Sea
A gift card to Red Lobster is a great gift for someone who adores seafood. Or if you like to cook, stop at a local seafood market to get food to prepare a surprise meal for someone. Make extra food too and send them home with another meal to enjoy at a later date.
Or, if you are in the mood to give a big splurge gift, plan and book a trip to a travel destination that is known for seafood. Some ideas include a trip to the Inner Harbor in Baltimore for crab cakes or to New Orleans for some Gulf Coast sea food (if the oil spill has cleared) or to Miami, Florida for some delicious stone crabs. New Jersey is also a great place to enjoy seafood. There are some very bucolic shore towns like Cape May, Ocean City, Spring Lake, Bradley Beach, and Ocean Grove with wonderful seafood restaurants.
Gym Membership or Walking Program
Give a gift of gym membership to someone who would like to work out but cannot afford a gym. Helping someone stay physically fit is a wonderful gift that will enhance his or her life in many ways.
Another fitness related gift idea is to offer to walk regularly with someone trying to get into the routine of exercise. Pick a set walking time or decide how often you will get together to walk. Walking is fun and great for the health.
Everyone likes to laugh. When you give a gift of a funny t-shirt you give someone a laugh when they open the gift and then a few years of laughing with everyone who sees the shirt as they wear it.
I love funny t-shirts. I think they add some joy to life. To find great humorous shirts check out www.CafePress.com.
Tea or Coffee Basket
I love to get gifts related to tea. Drinking tea is a real pleasure of life for me. I think most people would enjoy a tea or coffee basket if they enjoy drinking either beverage. Be sure to personalize the basket too.
Some ways to do that include making a mug with a photo of a special place the person enjoys or of the two of you together. Places like Kinkos can help you create personalized mugs or a special recipe book with foods enjoyed with tea like scones or muffins.
Another way to personalize the basket is to put in a few items that relate to the person’s heritage. For example, tea or food from the country of their heritage, spoons that relate to a special place or from the country of heritage, their favorite fresh fruits, and their favorite treats like cookies. If you bake and they like something you make be sure to put a batch of that in the basket too.
It is getting ever more expensive to enjoy a night out seeing a movie. So, if you know someone just out of college and eager to date but with little money, a book of movie tickets would be a fabulous holiday gift. Indeed, it is a great gift for anyone of any age who enjoys movies.
Selection of Gift Cards
Many drugstores now offer a wide selection of gift cards. Fun gift ideas include either buying someone a gift card for a place they cherish or taking them to the drug store on a set schedule like once a month to pick out a card together to go somewhere to spend a meal or an outing together.
It is also fun to leave envelopes with gift cards for someone in a noticeable area of someone’s home when you are there so they get a surprise later after you leave.
Book of Inspirational Quotes
Spend some time going through your favorite quotes or searching for quotes on the Internet. Find quotes that relate to the person’s interests and goals in life. Then compile the quotes into a booklet. You may also wish to include some pictures in the book too. You could use pictures of places that are special to the person or pictures of you and the person together.
This gift could be very special if from a parent or grandparent to a young adult or from someone to their partner in a romantic relationship.
You could either type up the quotes or if you have artistic talent use calligraphy or markers to create a hand-drawn book. When the pages of the book are created you can use a hole punch and ribbon to bind the book or take it to Kinkos to have a book created.
This gift could become a treasured family heirloom. It won’t cost much to make, but its value may be priceless.
Seeds for Flowers or Vegetables
The holidays start off the winter season. Thus giving someone packs of seeds for flowers or vegetables is a joyous gift. As the winter passes they can think about planting the seeds in the spring. Then all summer when the plants are growing they will remember you and the special gift.
