Football food is an essential on game day as football is the one sport we as family enjoy watching together. Add friends to the house and we want to make sure we have plenty of food for everyone without spending too much time in the kitchen before and during the game. Having sweet, salty, warm, spicy and cool foods are always on the menu. Here are some fun football food ideas for folks to enjoy.
The Food – And Why:
Meatballs– They’re easy to make, they are warm, and so tasty
One 16 oz. bag of frozen meatballs
2 jars of chili sauce
1/2 jar of grape jelly
Combine all ingredients into a crock pot and cook for 8 hours on low, stirring occassionally. Serve with toothpicks and/or hotdog buns if desired.
Veggie Tray – A healthy addition for kids and adults
Celery sticks, carrot sticks, olives, green pepper and cucumber slices, pickles
Serve with veggie dip or Hidden Valley Ranch dressing
Chocolate Fountain – No explanation needed
Two bags of chocolate chips and some canola oil are all that are needed to get this festive accessory to game day up and running.
Pound cake cut into bite size pieces, whole strawberries, orange slices, and pretzel sticks arranged on a large tray. Use toothpicks to dip into chocolate. Yum.
Veggie Pizza – Easy to make and easy to enjoy veggies in an extra tasty way
Open two crescent roll canisters, place the triangles flat on a cookie sheet, press together and spread out till sheet is covered. Bake recommended time.
Combine 1 – 8 oz. package of softened cream cheese, 1 pkg. Good Seasons Italian dressing mix, and a half cup of sour cream with a mixer. Spread on baked rolls evenly after completely cooled. Sprinkle with a combination of roma tomato, julienne carrots, tiny pieces of broccoli, and thinly sliced radishes.
Chips and Dip – Why would anybody not have these staples?
For something different, try hummus and pita chips.
Fruit Tray – One more healthy option to help balance out those carbs and keeps the kids happy
Grapes, mandarin orange slices, pineapple chunks – easy prep
Chili – Good for a cool fall day, a large dish to share with lots of people
Make your favorite chili recipe, and serve with spaghetti noodles for a complete meal. Condiments to enjoy for a unique flavor are shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, green onions, saltine crackers, or hot sauce.
