For those of you not familiar with fruit wines, they are a type of wine that, as their name implies, is made from fruits other than grapes. Most fruit wines bear the name of their main ingredient (Raspberry Wine, Strawberry Wine) although others may have more interesting names such as Blue Moon, which hint at the wine’s origins (blueberries). Many Texas fruit wines are made from locally grown fruit, while others are made from fruits imported from other states (for example, California strawberries.) Below are some Texas wineries that produce fruit wines worth sampling.
Landon Winery. Located in Greenville, Texas, Landon Winery produces a lovely Raspberry Wine. Landon Winery also produces other award-winning wines such as Chardonnay and Riesling, and offers a custom winemaking experience, too. Other Landon fruit wines include Peach and Yellow Rose (whites) and Red Rose. Click here for their website.
Sweet Dreams Winery in Palestine, Texas makes several award-winning fruit wines. The fruit used in these is 90% East Texas grown. Also, they do not use fruit extracts, artificial flavors or artificial colors. Their wines include Blackberry, Elmwood Blush, Muscadine, Pear and Plum Rose.
